@timvasilyev7 , pay to play means …Villanova does not give a lot of money. Not a lot of aid given to students. That is what I have heard. I am hoping that is not the case because we have not received financial info . My child loves it , but may be to expensive.
Son was waitlisted; 1420 SAT 4.0 GPA; 7 AP’s; Eagle Scout and lots of service to one specific area of passion. His first choice was IU Kelley so he is not devastated. He had no legacy.
Pay to play = ability to pay full price increases chance of acceptance; gives significant advantage to ed kids
Son accepted Chemical Engineering. Very happy for him as he was rejected from both Northeastern and BU a few days ago. Another rejection would’ve been really hard…
@FlyerFan1982918 Maybe they thought you wouldn’t accept their offer of admission? You sound like a strong candidate for any engineering program. I’ll bet you have other great schools to choose from.
Daughter was deferred in December. Accepted today to School of Nursing!! Super excited but NEED to see financial aid first. She just turned down TCU. Last two she is considering are Nova and Gonzaga. Good luck to all of those that were waitlisted.

should I go here or university of Tennessee honors in Knoxville jw your thoughts
@iappliedto25 what major? Grad school plans?
Accepted to VSB!! 4.5W 1520 SAT
Isn’t the notion of pay to play anti-Catholic?
@BornToRunUSA congrats!!! My D was also accepted at VSB ED but so far has not received any Fin AID. Did you already received your FA package?
@psssthoy If the answer is yes, does that make you feel any better? (In all honesty, I don’t know) Why does that matter to you?
@psssthoy BC, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross and PC are all need-blind but many other Catholic colleges are not. Here is a link to need-blind colleges for those interested https://www.edvisors.com/plan-for-college/college-admissions/need-blind-admissions/
@RKmom2 I find your post both lacking of credibility and nothing more than opinion. Yes, I do have experience with schools on (and off) the list you posted. Anyone reading links or opinions should Proceed with caution and look at several sources. Good luck to your families and to whatever school they choose. The mere fact that Villanova is on the list says your kid is an exceptional and serious student. Congrats and best wishes
@college dad 2B It’s not a matter of opinion. It has to do with a school’s admissions policy.
Waitlisted - 1330 SAT (640 math, 690 english), 3.8 GPA, 8 IB classes 1 AP class, IB diploma candidate, Girl Scout 13 years, many other extra curriculars, good essays and letters of recommendation. What are my chances of being taken off of waitlist? I have continually expressed that Villanova is my top school. I am disappointed but trying to stay hopeful.
Accepting 25 percent of the class via ED doesn’t seem all that outrageous, especially when you consider that now includes all of their athletes.
As for the financial aid, some facts could be helpful. According to collegedata, 69.8 percent of the most recent class was determined to be eligible for aid. So that is, at best, 30 percent full pays. The school met about 81 percent of need – yes, the number needs to get better – with an average award of over $35K. Not bad.
The implication that they denied everyone who needed aid in ED is as ridiculous as it is reckless. ED applicants get preference because they have made a commitment to the school.
Need blind means nothing. A school can be blind to your need, accept you, and then offer paltry aid. Happens all the time.
It’s pretty clear that a good student can’t just throw them an application and expect to get in anymore. Good for the university and for the incoming class.
