For all of the violinists who were accepted who turned in a music CD, what piece did you record? with orchestra or piano?

Wow 156 views and no violinist...!

I was going to reply, but you did specifically say violinists :)

I'm a flautist, and I went for the "short is sweet" approach, and submitted a 2min flute solo (Syrinx, Debussy - if you cared). In addition, I submitted a further two pieces of my own composition, of which one was bounced off Sibelius, and the other was written for flute (which I played), and piano.

So, around 8 minutes of music.

I'm a violinist, but i haven't applied to Harvard. However, I think you should submit the pieces that are played less frequently. This will be refreshing for the admission officials. Make sure you don't submit contemporary classical music though. Those are the absolute worst. Make sure it's not too long. I think you should know that playing a piece well and passionately is much better than playing a paganini caprice with okay techniue but with no style or emotion what so ever. Hope that helps.
