DD is a rising sophomore. We are new to Virginia. She has her heart set on a military career. Specifically Army. I would like to start helping her look at colleges in The State of Virginia first that have a strong Army ROTC program.
She has not yet fully settled on a particular major.
Any ideas how best to identify and create a hierarchical plan to visit this year?
Although this doesn’t answer your question, clearly VMI (Virginia Military Institute, in Lexington) should be on the list.
Definitely check out Virginia Tech’s corps of cadets. Hopefully @Creekland will chime in
Not in VA, but if her heart is set on an Army military career, she should also research West Point. It’s a long and involved application process but, as a sophomore, she has time, and you can’t beat the quality of the education for the price.
Otherwise, I agree about VMI and VT. You can also ask your question on serviceacademyforums.com — CC for those applying to service academies and/or ROTC programs.
Does she want stay in Virginia? “Other Daughter” is a rising junior at TAMU (ROTC). Freshman year she received full tuition; they then backdated their new patriot scholarship which covers all room and board, so she actually received a refund. Very strong, well regarded corps. She’s marksmanship team; her BF just graduated (corps as well) and is headed to flight school. Unless she wants to stay in VA, In addition to West Point, I’d recommend looking at OOS opportunities as well.
