Hi I am a high school senior that lives in Northern Virginia and I've narrowed my college decision to VT and GW. VT offered me a presidential scholarship that covers tuition, room, and board while attending GW would require me to graduate with $30,000 in debt and ~$5000 in out-of-pocket in costs per year to afford their education.

I know the choice may seem clear but I am interested in poly sci/ business and I think that a GW degree might be more attractive to employers.

Questions and comments are welcomed:)

In some cases I would say GW if money is not an issue at all, the differential is not so big, but for goodness sakes, VT for just about free vs $30K in debt and $20K+ out of pocket? You can do a lot of summer DC programs and things, really all over the world for the differential. Congratulations on teh award. I would not hesitate an instant to go to VT. I have a lot of family members who are VT grads, and they’ve all done well and had great experiences. It’s a fine school.

Better quality faculty at GW and student teacher ratio…but everything else is similar. I’d go with the less expensive school.

GW
% of faculty with PHD or Terminal Degrees - 92%
Student Teacher Ratio 13:1
91% of freshman come back for sophomore year
81% graduate within 6 years

VT
