It’s hilarious to watch everyone, including me, freak out over every little change. I wish I could just stop worrying about it and be patient.

But I know I’ll still check the app like five times a day hahaha

Hahaha yeah. I don’t want to go to any other college, so that’s why the wait is hard on me.

So I got $7,500 in loans per YEAR from financial aid. How screwed am I to pay the rest on my own… If I do get accepted can I somehow see if I can get more?

@Turkish93 I got even less than that. What’s your major? While you should always avoid loans at all cost, a general rule of thumb is to never take out more loans than one year’s worth of your major’s entry salary. As an engineering major, I’m gonna try as hard as I can to not take out more than $60,000. That’s still a ton of loans, but if I can find a decent job right out of school, I can survive. Still scary to think about though. Sucks to be an out of state student. :(

Mine has a red flag next to it.
My major is IT and I am in state so that one year entry salary thing isn’t an issue for me. I just wish I got a little more subsidized loans.

Hey guys,

The amount of financial aid or loans depend upon your status. They only gave me $7500 at beginning last fall. But they increased the amount after one semester.

So about this Hokie Bird appearing on the app status page. I had a hokie bird next to my financial aid links and now that has been replaced by red flags. I don’t have a single hokie bird anywhere in the application website. I applied Jan 22nd and ensured everything is in. Should I be nervous? I called up admissions and financial aid and none of them know what hokie bird i’m talking about… they are completely unaware about a bird showing up on the page…

@IAS117 my story is just the same, except for that I did not ask the admissions office about the hokie bird. It worries me that the only bird I’ve had has disappeared.

Does anyone at this point have a Hokie Bird next to the admission term? I think that whole thing might be for the Community College program. I wish they had like a key or something haha all these little changes are freaking me out so much!

@IAS117 That’s the story with most people. I don’t think it’s a guarantee or anything, but I’ve never heard of anybody getting the hokie bird and then being denied. Personally I never got a bird, just the red flag. Not sure what that means.

Does anybody not have a red flag or a Hokie Bird? Seems like everybody has just the red flag now.

That is interesting because you had the bird first and then it became a flag. Others like me only had a red flag unless there was a bird but it changed to flag before we could log on and check.

Like does anybody have no red flag or Hokie Bird?

Here’s a theory: maybe the bird next to the financial aid letter was only to draw your attention to the fact that you have awards. Then maybe VT finally caught wind of this “bird = acceptance” rumor, and subsequently went around removing the bird as a means of drawing attention to financial aid and replaced it with a red flag. Hmm?

i’ve never had any hokie bird or flags on my application. They just told me they were reviewing my financial aid however, and told me i had to submit two more documents that i just did today so maybe thats why i haven’t gotten those yet… hopefully lol

Anything seems possible at this point haha. This never happened in the previous years so we have nothing for reference. Whatever the case we will find out in a few days. Hopefully this information will help people next year.

i submitted my application in january but then they asked for my mid-semester grades so i feel like that pushed me back to the end of the pile for later review. That may have caused them to shuffle in my application with the last wave that is coming up. Well that’s my theory anyways I’m just trying to stay positive lol

did you guys with the bird or flag get that a while ago with the last wave (3 weeks ago…?) or just recently?

I applied to 8 colleges this Fall and have been accepted into every single one (besides VTech) and I NEVER received financial aid awards before I was admitted. So it’s really weird that Virginia Tech would send out financial aid before admission letters. Personally, if I end up being denied, I’ll be pretty mad. It would be really unprofessional to tell students “This is how much money we would have given you if you had been accepted.” So I’m HOPING that because they send out admission letters in waves, they just goofed up and sent out financial aid awards to the admitted students before they’re notified of admission.

@JoshIsACowboy27 I feel the same way about the Honors Application like why get people’s hopes up and post things that make it seem like they’re in and then be like just kidding. This is the most stressful application process I’ve been through

@JoshIsACowboy27 Congrats x 7! What schools were they anyway? And yeah, it does seem like VT messed up with the way they handled applications this year.
