Virtual Virginia Courses??

My school does not offer AP Environmental Science and I was planning to take it through Virtual Virginia. Has anyone taken AP Environmental Science through Virtual Virginia?? What is the course load like and how well does it prepare you for the AP exam??

I’m currently taking AP Environmental Science through Virtual Virginia right now. For the course load, there will be many “case studies” (chapters), each covering a topic such as wastewater, population, energy, etc. Most case studies are around two weeks long for the year long course. There are reading assignments due for each case study (~2-3 chapters and 30-40 basic questions), and there is usually a lab as well, which requires a formal write up or a post on the discussion board. Then, at the end of each case study there will be a quiz that you can retake as many times as you want, plus a free response question for certain cases. Then we also have live review sessions, for which you may watch the recording and submit notes if you miss it.

Overall I think it’s a pretty easy course (a bit of busy work tbh) and the online teachers are friendly and accessible. However, I do not believe that it prepares you thoroughly for the AP exam, simply because the tested information (i.e. the quizzes on the website which often use former AP questions) do not often match with the reading assignments or labs. But I think if you get a book to study for the exam, you should be just fine. ^^

Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful!

By any chance mayee107 have you taken AP United States History or AP Gov? I have an interest in taking them through VV depending on how well the classes are.
