I know it is possible to obtain a waiver for a PRK procedure correcting your vision to the level necessary for pilot status. But how likely is this? How many waivers are offered per year? My current vision is 20/50 left eye, 20/60 right eye. and I would be disqualified from flying without a waiver.

Sorry I can't answer this. But, I wonder..if you have a vision impairment..do you have to wear the standard issue black rimmed glasses? Contacts option? I actually need glasses for vision, but I don't wear them much..just when I want to see from a distance :)

DO NOT TRY IT! My vision is only slightly better than yours. I am NQ. Your junior year here they will give you PRK if you are qualified (and you most likely will be) so you can be PQ. DO NOT GET IT BEFOREHAND!

i read some post that you can only go up one qualifying spot correct? say i am only commission qualified right now. if i get the laser eye correction, i will only be able to become navigator qualified? is there a slight chance for me to skip up to pilot qualified?

That's what I think I HEARD, but I'm not positive. And that was my post.

You can definately get bumped all the way up to become pilot qualified by the surgery. Many of my friends wore glasses all day and were NQ but now have 20/20 and will be pilots. It all depends on your particular condition and as someone who knows how stringint the standards are ( my vision is perfect with no discrepencies but i still need a waiver based on the shape of my eye) there is no way to tell what they are going to offer you until you are evaluated here.
