Did you guys have fun watching the football game last night?

That’s just dumb, it’s not like UNC is a football powerhouse either. Did you guys have fun losing to Virginia by just as much a month ago?

UNC is no football powerhouse by any means, but it is still a lot better than Duke.

Nope, that was terrible. Worst game I’ve seen us play in a while. Still, I’d take a loss to UVa over a loss to Richmond any day of the week.

Yeah, in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king…better than Duke is not something to be proud of in football.

Sure it is-I would rather be better than Duke than worse than Duke.

And our team isn’t too shabby, either. Great season last year, and we’re having an OK one so far this year.

Not to mention, there is somewhat of a rivalry between us.

Yeah, forgive me for not holding up my end of the rivalry, but I’m not from NC and really don’t care if people at UNC think they are better than Duke at football/being southern/whatever little thing that doesn’t really matter. Sure basketball rivalry is great and all since both programs are great, but this whole finding any small thing to be better than Duke at is kind of pointless. Have it your way.

Football isn’t a “small” thing in this country, and most people would agree that UNC and Duke share a rivalry in football just as they do in basketball. Heck, there’s even a liberty bell that goes to the winner of the football game every year. But, if you’re not from around here, I guess it can’t be too surprising that you didn’t know this.

I know about the bell, but college football in NC isn’t exactly a national thing. We are not talking about the USC/Cal rivalry or the Wolverine/Buckeye rivalry. So comparatively, it’s not a big thing. I’m sure most people not from NC will identify the UNC/Duke rivalry as mostly a basketball rivalry.

^^

Can’t argue with that. Hopefully, the football rivalry will expand so we can get a better two-sport rivalry going.

Give it a couple of years.

LOL did you two seriously just spend that much time arguing about what are two of the worst football teams in the ACC? hahaha

UNC is not even close to being the worst team in the ACC-either this season or historically.

ranked 2nd-to-last in the coastal division atm, i know it went to a bowl last yr so i suppose unc must have broken even at least, but i do remember 2 yrs ago unc finished 2nd-to-last in the division, with its only win being over duke (which was last).

and i said “two of the worst”, not “two worst”

UNC lost this year to Georgia Tech (the best team in the ACC by far), Virginia (after we were plagued with injuries), and Florida State (no excuse there). We also beat Virginia Tech, at their place, on a Thursday night primetime game. UNC is a middle of the pack ACC team right now, but is nowhere close to being one of the worst. UNC is better than NC State, Duke, Maryland, probably Virginia, and possibly Virginia Tech. Still have three games left to play.

And last year, we went 8-5, losing 4 games by a combined total of 9 points. Yes, 9 points made us 8-5 instead of 12-1. Not too bad.

The perennial ACC bottom feeders are Duke and Virginia, and NCSU and Maryland are joining those two at the bottom of the pile this year.

I jumped to the end of this thread, so forgive me if I am repeating someone else’s advice.

As a mom, I have been on over 13 college visits… 2 boys, 2 years apart. 1 now in college, one just applied Duke ED.

When you walk on campus, you get a ‘feel’ for it. Sometimes it’s positive, sometimes it’s negative. Many campuses that I thought we’d like, we didn’t. Campuses that I had no feelings about one way or the other, pleasantly surprised us. If you can’t see yourself walking on that campus a year fom now, then don’t apply.

My son had an immediate reaction to Duke. The ‘I need to go here’ feeling. He’s a ‘smart jock’ also, but has lived overseas and speaks Chinese. Not an URM, Not an ORM. He’s not a partier, but loves to have fun…all the time.

There are just some things that are intangible. He loved the forest, the quaintness, and saw himself playing frisbee and chillin’ in the garden with his laptop.

You just know it.

Well stated, Singaporemom. You are also describing our son’s experience 4 years ago. Is it for everyone? Of course not. But it was the right place for our son.
