Visited JMU -- not what we expected

My junior son and I from NJ visited there last week and thought we were saving the best from our Virginia list for LAST, but boy, were we wrong.

After driving for 3 hours, the online instructions sent you one place. The 1060 radio station instructions sent you to another place, and told you to go wait for a bus that never came. After finally getting there late, missing the tour, we were given a map to drive around, and directed to a literature room. This place has about 900 parking lots, and a ton of congestion all around the college in the city surroundning it, although it's in the middle of nowhere. So we decided to take the "driving tour" and see what we liked. It was very confusing. Disjointed. We parked and went into the bookstore. Other than the beatiful southern beauties my son enjoyed oogling, he said, "Mom, this ISN'T it." He knew right away.

And I thought it was going to be the best on the VA list.

Sorry that you did not like JMU. My son is so happy as a student there. We had a completely different experience when we toured, but we were tired b/c we came from visiting another school in MD. Actually Route 81 bisects the school. They do have a lot of parking lots, and we also parked near the bookstore for our first few visits. My husband actually programmed the dorm my son lives in into his gps, so that he finds it quickly. The school does run like butter. We have no complaints.
