Hey guys,

I’m headed to visit Cal next week, anything I should look @ in particular? I’m trying to decide between paying everything @ Cal (which, regardless of what FAFSA says, is a financial hardship), or going with a Regents’ Scholarship to any of the mid-tier UCs (UCD, UCSB, UCI). I’m probably going to major in Comparative Literature (but International Relations, Hebrew, German, Arabic, Russian, and English are all areas of interest, as well as Comp Sci for that matter (though probably won’t do much in the Comp Sci realm should I attend Berk)). Anybody willing to help me out? Suggest faculty I should see? Is it possible to sit in on a class @ Berk, or does that not work (I’ve never tried before @ other schools)? Thanks so much!

Absolutely sit in a class, just make sure its a lecture... I haven't heard of too many people who are that FOND of having just anyone bust in on their 20 person discussion.

Just pick any random lecture class and sit down. 95 outta 100 are gonna be amazing. Visit telegraph, cuz that's a popular hang-out and you get a real feeling for the kitschy side of Berkeley, (otherwise, Berkeley is like every other town on the planet.) talk to various student groups. Have lunch at Blondies, Smart Alecs or at the Asian Ghetto (it's the alcove with all the Asian resturaunts, all of them are great for what you pay). Take the tour. Talk to students. Hang out.

Sit into the most infamous CS class in Berkeley: CS61A (MWF 2-3 PM). Go check out Chem 1A too or 3A (o-chem). Definitely check out some of those English R1A/R1B classes as well as Comparative Lit 60AC. Yup You gotta see the discussions too at Berkeley. Our TAs are top notch.

I have math 6 hrs a week. 3 hrs of lecture and 3 hrs of discussion. They teach you WELL. I don't see anyone else getting 6 hrs of math a week at LA. Nor do I see anyone with 7 hrs of Physics (3 hrs lecture + 4 hrs lab/discussion) at LA either. Trust me, they teach you VERY well here.

Thanks guys! They really won't mind if I sit in on a lecture? (sorry, too used to high school I guess). Also, how do I find classes? Will the catalog say where they are/when they meet? Thanks a bunch!
