Visiting Duke: Car rental required?

Alumother-
Please feel free to pm me.

My son is a very happy (and busy and tired) freshman at Duke. The last time I visited Duke, I rented a car and then didn't use it except for to and from the airport, as I was staying in a hotel that had a shuttle to and from the campus and anything else in a five-mile radius. I loved not dealing with on-campus parking!

But, re-reading your initial post, it doesn't look like you'll have much time for driving around if you're only going to be on camps for part of a day!

Are you taking an official tour? Ours did not include East Campus. I agree that it is a good idea to hop onto one of the buses that say East-West and check out East Campus. It's s 5-minute ride. If there is any time left over, the Sarah Duke gardens are not to missed this time of year!

Hoping you have a great visit-
