visiting ND...

when is the best time to visit? im looking at march 15th and april 6th...how are those lookin'? what would you guys advise a potential student to check out while in south bend/notre dame and what things on campus should i be sure to see or explore?

Spring break for students is March 10-18. Don't know how many students will be on campus, not to mention no classes.

Agreed, I would pick April 6th. I visited one college during their fall break and it was a huge mistake! You just can't get a sense of the school unless you come when the students are here.

oh i visited on the weekend before fall break 2005. fortunately for me, it was the usc game weekend, which was an amazing amazing game. and also fortunately for me, i got my friend's student ticket for free. i would advise april 6th. i wont be on campus from march 10-18, and most other students wont be either. april 6 will be a pretty lax weekend b/c we'll be back from spring break and wont have so much work to keep us down for a little while.

i was going the 29-31st.. but it looks like its gonna be march 25-27th

I would not advise going during their spring break.... I think it would be best to get a feel of the campus during a reg school day.. .maybe eat in the dh....or peek into a dorm or classroom

I don't think you can visit overnight on April 6th. It's Good Friday and the schedule shows no overnight visits...we had the same idea.

Definitely don't come during spring break. I visited ND for the first time during fall break and would agree with Irish, you just can't get a good feel of the campus without the students. There isn't much worth seeing in South Bend, so I'd focus most of your attention on campus while you're here. I'd recommend checking out as many of the dorms as you can (the older dorms are very different from the newer ones), the dining halls, the grotto (especially at night), the basilica, LaFortune, and some of the classroom buildings.

the grotto? explanation please lol

A replica of the grotto in Lourdes, France where many go to pray. It is beautiful at night. http://www.ndmn.org/includes/Grotto-Spring-Dusk_top.jpg

ill add, its a quiet place for reflection and prayer in the area behind the main building and the lakes. during the warmer seasons, you'll see many people praying there at all hours of the day and night. even during the coldest months, you'll still see quite a few people.
