Visiting NU this week - would like to meet/have lunch or dinner with current student

My daughter and I will be visiting Northwestern this week (plus hanging around a bit to enjoy Chicago and Evanston). She is an admitted student and wants to see NU again before making her final decision (last visit was 1 1/2 years ago and pretty brief). The Admissions Office said that they won't schedule overnight visits at this time of year. I think it's important at this point for my daughter to talk with NU students about the school, but on other campus visits she was too shy to go up to students on her own and ask questions. Is there any student here who would be willing to spend some time with her to talk about the school - possibly over lunch or dinner, maybe in one of the dining halls, possibly show her a dorm (I know that for some reason the admissions office tends to keep dorms off-limits for prospective students)?

We'll be arriving in Evanston late Wednesday night (the 29th) and staying through Sunday morning. We're planning on doing the info session and tour on Thursday, and probably one of the the WCAS info sessions on Thursday or Friday. Apparently the admissions office has separate info sessions for admitted seniors that include current NU students, but I'm thinking it would be very useful for her to have more personal contact than that.

Also, is there anything interesting going on on campus this Thursday through Saturday that we should be sure to check out?

Please post here or PM me if you can help us out - it would be very much appreciated.
CC has been VERY helpful - I've been lurking here quite a bit the past few months but just joined up today.

I would love to meet with you and your daughter, but unfortunately my Thursdays are entirely booked from 11am to 5pm (the price of 5 classes!). Is there any particular area of interest she’s looking to study? My suggestion is to just go with her to some place like Norris or one of the on campus cafes (such as Crowe Cafe in Crowe Hall), and just introduce yourselves as prospective student and mother to someone who doesn’t look too busy/ stressed out (tail end of Mid-terms this week, so someone cramming won’t have time to talk). Most students are pretty friendly to “prospies.”

arbiter213, I’ve really enjoyed your posts on this board - they’ve been very informative.
Would you be available any time on Friday, or maybe even Saturday? - we’re arriving Wed. night, and not flying out until Sunday afternoon, staying right in Evanston - so we’ll be close by and very flexible in terms of getting together with you or any other interested students.

My daughter doesn’t know what she wants to major in at this point - admitted to WCAS. The Kaplan Scholars program sounds really great - her dad and I are encouraging her to apply to it. It sounds like a great way to get introduced to a broad variety of disciplines and great faculty, plus probably a very interesting group of students.

I’m available as well.

thanks, suppasonic. We’ve got a meeting set up, but I appreciate your offer (sorry so long getting back to you - limited computer access the past few days.)
