We are doing a college visit in the Washington DC area with a quick side trip to Athens to visit Ohio University. We have a tour and information session scheduled. Is there anything we should be sure to see on campus while we are there?

We'll be arriving in Athens in the early evening the night before, and leaving a couple of hours after our tour is over. Good restaurant suggestions? Anything we should be sure to see in town? We already have a hotel reservation.

Hmm. The campus in general is really pretty. As far as places to eat, if you want a sit-down restaurant I would go over to the Ruby Tuesdays on State St. It's not exactly "on campus" but it's good. If you want to go someplace to sit down that's closer to campus, there's an EXCELLENT chinese place called "China Fortune" that's on Stimpson Rd. It looks a little sketchy from the outside, but it's really nice and yummy. For a quicker, informal meal you should go to Big Mama's Burritos. It's on Court Street in uptown and I absolutely love it. They offer mega burritos (Chipotle sized) and also "baby burritos" which are pretty much just normal sized. I like the chicken club burrito.

As for sights...I'm not sure. The new Baker Center (student center) is awesome, and I'm sure they'll bring you there on your tour. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions!

I recommend Casa Nueva for a "real" restaurant. I mean, why eat at a chain - it will be just like home! Casa Nueva is right in town, lots of college kids eat there, we had a very enjoyable meal there.

We loved the OU campus, and although my son chose another school I still feel fondly towards OU. If your child has any hope of snagging a large scholarship (based on SAT scores for out of staters) or is applying to the honors college, I'd try to get a peek at the honors housing.
