Visiting Student

Hey guys,

I am a student from a German university and I want to study in the States. One of the options is a “visiting student” program, which is offered by a lot of universities.

The one problem with those programs is, that you are expected to pay the full price while attending for 1-2 semesters.

Does anybody know if there are any universities that don't require visiting students to pay the full tuition price or alternatively don't have horrendous costs?

Thank you in advance

Does your German university have exchange agreements with any American universities? That would be your best (and probably only) option to attend an American university for cheap.

I’m not aware of any free or cheap visiting programs. Quite to the contrary, many universities admit visiting students primarily for the extra cash flow.

To find universities with a cheap sticker price, you can use a college search engine and only search for colleges below a certain cost. Please note that $10.000 tuition per year would count as extremely cheap in this country.

I’d also like to point out that there are visa issues to consider here. International students cannot simply enroll as non-degree seeking students because there’s no visa for that. You’d either have to enroll as a degree-seeking student, or your German university has to guarantee in writing that they will accept all of your American courses for your German degree. Just that ‘credit transfer guarantee’ may limit you to pre-approved exchange programs anyway.
