I'm visiting Swarthmore next Saturday/ Monday, and was wondering how I can spend my time there to get the fullest picture of Swat. Are there any professors in particular who are really excellent and whose classes I could possibly sit in on? Any campus sights or places I should visit? How could I possibly eat a meal in the dining hall/ talk to and meet students? Thanks for any input!

You can use this site to pick out classes you might want to sit on that will fit into your schedule.

Keep in mind that Monday is the first day of the spring semester. Most students might still be on vacation during the weekend, so it will not be a typical weekend on campus.

Well, if the office knows you're staying, you'll be getting the free meal cards that can only be used in Sharples, so you'll be getting a meal in the dining hall, and you can talk to whomever you wish.

I recommend wandering around on your own for 45 minutes or so to see as much as possible. Maybe if your host is bored he or she can go with you. I saw so much by doing that while my host was at swimming practice.

I visited in early September. If you don't plan to go with a host (which is probably better if it's possible) here's what I did that was a pretty good use of my time:

Sunday
-My dad and I just walked around campus, talked to students, etc.
Monday
-I emailed the head of the math department and asked if I could meet with one of the teachers... he suggested one of the profs and I met with her for an hour or so...
-I sat in on an multivariable class, since that's the math I'm in this year
-lunch at Sharples
-interview
-I was supposed to go on a tour at this point, but that didn't work out... I just walked around campus and talked to students... found one student hanging outside of the dorm and asked if he could show me around the dorm... he did, and answered all my questions

The best thing you can do is just talk to students. Tell them that you're a high school senior and ask whatever you want to know. The students I met were all really friendly and willing to talk about the school and answer all my questions. Sit with students at lunch, see what they talk about, ask them anything you want... I personally prefer to ask random students questions rather than the tour guides because I feel that I get a more balanced opinion that way. Also ask what they don't like. I'm always skeptical of people who say that they love everything about a school, especially if they are the ones giving me a tour.

The campus will be pretty empty until Sunday. However, Sharples will be open all weekend. Anyone can eat there by simply paying for a meal.

Monday is the first day of classes. They certainly won't be typical class sessions, but they might be pretty informative as professors outline the coming semeseter's work.
