Hello
any do not miss spots on campus
we are taking my son to tour Washington and Lee on Thurs and Davidson an Fri
any good advice about W&L would be appreciated

Sorry we are visiting on Thursday
thanks

The campus is pretty small. The tour should be all you need there. Make sure to sign up for an interview and have your son wear a jacket and tie. You should also go to an information session. You might also be able to sit in on a class. Finally sit in the student union and try to engage some students in conversation - they will be more than happy to talk to you about the school. Good luck.

thanks for info, signed up for info session as well as tour
sons looking forward to visiting

It’s a beautiful time of year to visit, but be aware that the four-week Spring Term started this week, so many students are off campus on study abroad programs or internships. The ECafe at Hillel is the best place for coffee on campus and has a nice patio.

A couple years ago my D and I did the W&L tour during our Mid-Atlantic trip to visit schools, and one of the more enduring memories I recall was the remarkable sense of safety on campus. Specifically, the unlocked bicycles parked outside the buildings in contrast to other campuses we visited that same trip that had stripped bicycle carcasses (where nothing is left but the lock and the one part of the bicycle attached to that lock) lying around. I was also struck by the pile of unattended backpacks placed outside the cafeteria and the unattended laptops in the library. Also we had a few encounters with the “speaking tradition” with unfamiliar persons unexpectedly greeting us on campus.

Thanks
My older sons campus has that same feeling of safety and honesty which s2 is also looking for
Glad to hear that, will have to look up the speaking tradition as that is something new to us

Speaking tradition = greeting strangers?

Yes. As you walk around campus, people will nod and say hello as they pass you. Just as if you are in a small Southern town, which of course you are.

My family lived in the area when I was a kid. Only lived there for about 5 years (near Sulphur Springs) but left an impression for sure. The towns are very friendly and it is still a save quiet area. We return every couple of years and are always greeted with such warmth.
