Interview

I'm visiting W&L for the first time on Monday and also have an interview. Any advice from current students/ applicants as far as what to where and what the interview is like?

wow I can't beleive I just said "where" instead of "wear", anyways thanks for the advice

My D wore a blouse, skirt and blazer. Err on the conservative side. If your parents are going with you, suggest to them to wear business casual. They are asked into the interview at the very end. I didn't expect that.

My S had a great time in his interview, as did my husband and I when we joined him at the end. Very relaxed and conversational. Was supposed to last 10-15 min, but we finally went in to talk after about 45 minutes. Professor Knudson is the man!

Just go with the flow and speak from your head and heart instead of trying to say what you think they might want to hear. We found it particularly interesting to learn about W&L's process for reviewing applications and making decisions -- that's when we realized that they really mean it when they say they will consider anything and everything you send on an individual basis.

Guys - you can't go wrong with a blazer and tie. Have fun!

One word: Madras.

(seersucker is out of season...)

I wore a Lilly sundress for mine. But I had mine when it was about 85 degrees out so it depends on what the weather is in Lexington right now. My interviewer was very informal and friendly. She didn't ask any hard questions, just stuff like what do you do outside of school, how do you like Lexington, why do you want to go to W&L, where else are you applying, etc.

The interview went well, Thanks for the advice everyone. I will be applying EDI.

Don't forget to send a thank-you note to your interviewer!

"Don't forget to send a thank-you note to your interviewer!"

In cursive.

Seersucker, I wonder where you got THAT line? :) I don't think CC approves "ads" of that nature!

I was already planning on the handwritten thank you note. I also got a personalized email from the interviewer thanking me and replied to that. (this surprised me). Even more surprising we got a call from admissions today asking if we had left a W&l sweatshirt there. They were calling everyone who had been in the admissions office. Little things like that really reassured me that W&L is the right place to apply ED.
