My D and I are coming to see Vanderbilt. She is an athlete, playing Volleyball and running track. She sent an email to the track coach and the club volleyball coach to reach out to them and maybe have a conversation with them. What are the chances they will respond? She has decent stats. I don't think there is a intercollegiate volleyball team but it looks like the club one is pretty active. She just wants to play! Also, will this help in admissions even if she is not being actively recruited by Vanderbilt for athletics?

My S wrote the baseball coach when he was in 9th grade. The coach replied immediately! And it was not a form letter, surprisingly. He was impressed by his maturity and focus at an early age. Strongly suggested he attend one of the Commodores baseball camps (which he did this past winter!) and then cut and paste the NCAA rules about talking to candidates before Junior year! The recruiters we have spoken to about baseball have allsaid its important for players to reach out to the coaches. They may not be able to reply, but if they are interested, they will keep track of what she is doing. Good luck

Women’s track is a pretty big deal here. We have a decent team. If your daughter has good times, she could get recruited which will obviously help a lot with admissions. If she is not recruited, I don’t believe it will help her much, aside for just being a solid extracurricular. Guess it depends on her times and how much the coach is interested in her.

I’m not sure that I would expect a serious response from the Volleyball coach. It’s just a club team, and to be honest, my highschool VB team could destroy the club team here (but then again I’m from Texas and VB is a big deal). I believe they have enough girls now that there are tryouts for their 2 or 3 teams, but it’s not a huge deal.
