Women's volleyball team...

Wondering if anyone can tell me ANYTHING about NYU's womens vb team? My dd is very interested in NYU, Cap 21, AND playing volleyball for NYU. Knowing they're a D3 team so no scholarship $ is avail (gulp!!!), just curious about the odds of being offered a spot on the team and if it's even a possibility. Is there any help the vball coach can provide with admissions if she's desired?

By then, she'll have 6 years club experience with large, prestigious southern California club and 4 years hs team.

I'm v-e-r-y new to this so thank you for being patient with me! :)

If you go on the NYUAthletics website, you can fill out a recruitment interest form. The coach will contact you/your DD and you can figure out where to go from there. I’m not familiar with athletics, but I do remember prospective athletes shadowing upperclassmen in my classes. I don’t know if the coaches can help with admissions, you can ask them about that. Good luck!

I’m going on an athletic visit to NYU this friday (not VB though) so I hope I can help -

In addition to filling out the questionnaire, make sure to email the coach - email is the best way to get the coach’s attention, along with calling them.

Since NYU is a UAA DIII school… I would hazard an educated guess and say athletic recruitment would be a tip factor, since NYU isn’t a huge sports school. In my sport, the coach can offer help through admissions, but there are no guarantees (as with most DIII schools). He told me that “You get one foot over the fence, and I’ll get the other foot to the other side.” And since your D isn’t applying to the traditional academic schools (CAS, Stern, Steinhardt etc.) you’ll need to quiz the coach harder on his/her influence. I hope this helped!

Thank you both. Justspice, good luck on your athletic visit. I would love to hear about it and welcome a pm if you’d be willing to share.

I will plan on the recruitment interest form, email, etc. but at what age/grade do you start that? Is freshman year too early?

Back to my research but if anyone has any additional information on their volleyball program, admissions with sports, etc., I would definitely welcome it!

And I would be willing to share, when I get back! =). And yes I think frosh year is toooo early… focus on grades and SAT/ACT, recruiting usually starts along junior year. Also, I think the rest of your queries would be best directed to the Recruited Athletes forum - some people have inside info there.
