Visiting

I am a junior and really interested in marist for psych.
Am planning to visit in june and was wondering if I would still be able to get a good feel for it even though classes aren't in session and people aren't really on campus and such. If I like it I will go visit again during the school year so I can see it in action.
What do you guys think?
Is the campus usually lively during the school semesters?

Well, there’s nothing like getting a feel for a school while campus is in session; it’s just not the same feel during the summer. But for those wanting to go out-of-state, summer is usually the best time to go on visits.

We first visited in summer of my sons HS Jr. year and did the tour, info session (which is very helpful, I feel it was the most informative one we attended) and hung around campus some, its a very laid-back feel in the summer without a full campus of students. Of course we went down by the river too. I think it set the tone for our “feel” of the campus, and when we returned with a full campus, it just cemented it. It is definitely worth the summer visit, and follow up with a “in-session” visit. Just keep in mind most colleges (and Marist is included in this) do their major renovations, additions, and work during the summer so sometimes that can be off-putting, but it is usually completed at school start or shortly thereafter and then is just a memory of the construction. I know Marist is undertaking a major project this summer, they are building a underpass under rte9 for the students to access for crossing rte 9 to the upper housing, and stores, restaurants across the street. So much safer and will be a nice addition come Fall '11. Good Luck!
My son will be a soph in the fall, and loves it.
