I'm currently a junior and planning to visit Smith next week. There seems to be so many interesting things to do on campus! At least, for a prospecitve student. I've already lined out my whole schedule, breakfast, tour, admissions session, classes, etc., but I was also wondering if I should sign up for an interview. My parents told me to since I'm "going to be up there anyway" but I would rather have my interview in the fall. Wouldn't that be more helpful to my app? Another thing, do I have to make previous arrangements for a tour or can I just go to the admissions office at 9:45 and wait for it? Should I call admissions about sitting in on classes?

Thanks in advance,
Karen <3

Gah, I just typed out an eloquent response and accidentally cleared it! Grrrrr.

Anyway, you don't need to call ahead to take the tour. The only way you would need to is if it is dire you be on the 10 AM tour and you are running late, so someone can hang back to take you. What day are you planning to come? I give my tours at 10 on Monday mornings ;-)

My thoughts on the tour is might as well while things are fresh in your mind, but if you don't feel ready, there is no harm in holding off.

Good luck!

I would definitely sign up for an interview while your questions and experiences are fresh in your mind. At the interview, they'll take notes and put them in your file and keep them until your application is processed, so it won't make a difference for your app whether you do it now or later.

A piece of advice though, don't sign up for an interview right after your tour, if you can help it. Tours sometimes run a little over time and you might have to leave early to go to your interview if say, you tour at 10 and your interview is at 11.

As for classes, you don't need to call the admissions office, in advance. They have a listing of current classes with times and rooms that you can look at, and then you just go to a class and introduce yourself to the professor. As long as they aren't having an exam, it should be fine.

Thanks everyone!

gillettie08- I hate it when that happens. One time I think I spent about 30 minutes writing the longest post ever but then my browser just shut off. The worst part: whenever you write something the second time it's just not as beautiful as the first.

I'm planning on taking the 10 AM tour on Monday! Maybe I'll see you then.

Definitely do the interview! It might end up being an important piece of your application.

I can't do the interview!! I went online during school and realized that interviews are only starting on April 3 yet I'm visiting on April 2. =(

It doesn't really matter to me. It's not that far so I can go up practically any weekend.
