If you are planning a visit to Rice as a High School student, when is the best time of the school year to go? Keep in mind, the purpose would not be to sit in on classes or schedule an interview, or anything. It would merely be to visit the campus, and see how the students typically interact with one another. Also, it would be a visit sometime other than winter "break" or spring "break," otherwise there is hardly any point in going at all.

Towards the beginning of the fall semester, maybe around mid-September to early-October. I don't really know why, except that the weather tends to be nice, and students aren't burned out from too much work yet.

That's when we were planning to go, but I wanted to make sure that the weather would be nice. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't want to experience "real" Houston weather just yet. (Heat, humidity, etc.) hehe.

mid-september through the end of October are both good. I'd check the Rice calendar and make sure that it doesn't line up with fall break though.

Well if you want to wait for the heat to subside you typically need to wait until mid-October.

Rice has tours twice a day every day. You don't have to pre-schedule, just show up.

Is the weekend of October 31st a bad time to visit? That is the only time that our school has a 3-day weekend, and I am wondering if that time of the month would still fall under the "good weather" category.

The "good weather" category is October through April.

What are the best hotels to stay at near campus? My mom prefers big, nice hotels or quaint bed and breakfasts.

Rice University | Explore Rice

We thought the Marriott Medical Center was nice, convenient --
a little over $100 per night. A free shuttle takes you from there
to campus.

Or you can walk from the Marriott - it is only a few blocks. :) Ask for the Rice discount (99$), although sometimes there are better deals online. Beds are much more comfortable at the Marriott than at the Best Western which is also nearby.

Halloween weekend is when NOD is. Get your child a nice taste of college parties haha.
