Vocal Music

I recently sent in my enrollment deposit for Boston University, so I’ll be officially attending this fall. I’ll be majoring in Philosophy and Physics (as one major, since they offer that) and I’m planning to minor in Music. I have several questions.

I really want to participate in some sort of chorus or ensemble, because I absolutely can’t imagine my life without music (choral music, specifically, so a cappella groups will not satisfy my hunger). I’ve been looking at the Music website and doing research about the different choirs at BU, but I haven’t seen anything super awesome to spark my interest. Do any of the BU choirs go on a concert tour toward the end of the year? This is something that I’m really interested in doing, because I’ve seen several concerts of traveling choirs and it seems like something that I would love. If BU choirs don’t go on a concert tour, are there any Boston choirs that do travel?

Any insight on the choral program (for non-majors) at BU would be really great.

The vast bulk of choral activity is inclusive of non-majors.
The best extra-curricular chorus is the Marsh Chapel Choir, a wonderful group which contributes really significantly to the life of the university.
The Symphonic Chorus at CFA is probably your best bet. It doesn’t tour annually, but it does occasionally. More importantly, it’s a great group with a wonderful director, and it performs in Symphony Hall about twice a year.
