We are going to be visiting a school back east and attending an evening voice recital by a male friend of my D's. Is it appropriate to bring flowers? Neither of us has been to a voice recital before.

We have given flowers at both male and female recitals.

It is not commonly done, especially for guys. I would write a nice card to him, and enclose a gift card for a local treat or some kind of media acquisition (Amazon type thing). Hand it to him after the recital when you greet him. Enjoy!

I agree with the gift card idea. Most of my male music major friends would be looking for a good place to stuff the flowers because they’d rather not hold onto something like that. Restaurant gift cards are always appreciated!

Another vote for Lorelei’s suggestion! That’s what we’ve done for the guys…

Thanks, everyone!

Maybe a West Coast thing? :)

At the West Coast MONC regional finals even the men got flowers. BTW UCLA had a fantastic showing there. J. Guerroro (tenor), P. Southwell (mezzo), L. Edwards (mezzo) and Tracy. Cox (soprano). All wonderful, with UCLA Tracy Cox winning with Verdi and Wagner. WOOOOT!
