Upon entering this freshmen year, I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions for who is the best voice studio to be in? I know that Florence Birdwell is no longer accepting new students, and is transitioning to no longer having vocal students I suppose. It’s a shame because she is no longer taking freshmen the year I am going! Ugh.
I am considering requesting Vicky Kelly because I have heard amazing things about her. Anyone know anything?

My son will be a junior at OCU in the fall and is in Lisa Regan Love’s studio – he has never been happier with a vocal coach (and he has had private coaching for many years) – her students are consistently cast in productions and there is a very strong bond within the group. However - I’m not sure you can choose a studio. I believe that the studio heads choose the students. I can’t imagine a better place for my son than OCU. He was accepted other places, but this is - by far - the most amazing program we found. (Even though it is in Oklahoma.) :(

It is true that you cannot choose, but you can request to work with a specific teacher. I was thinking about Love. I saw a couple of videos and her kids were so amazingly talented. And that is very relieving to hear that you have had a very positive experience with OCU. Is it really that hard to be cast in the shows?

My DD graduated last December and while she started with Birdwell her Freshman year but for many reasons she ultimately switched to Frank Ragsdale, a fabulous instructor especially for a big belt voice. All of the instructors will have students cast in the productions and I have no heard of many negatives about any of them.
The level of talent at this school is fantastic and the competition for the roles on the main stage is intense. However they have lots of productions off the main stage and usually have split casts for the leads in the big shows. DD was cast as the lead in one main stage production and was in ensemble in a couple of others. She was also cast as a lead in one of the strip shows and featured roles in three other productions in the small stage productions. I think that all of her friends got cast in multiple productions but not all had leading roles.
