VOIP recommendations?

For multiple numbers, has anyone used t mobile Digits so they can have a throwaway number?

This thread is such a wonderful coincidence, we are moving and are vacillating between dropping the landline altogether or moving to VOIP. I am finding it difficult to compare apples to apples in terms of pricing on all of the VOiP websites, they really do not make it easy, nor are there a lot of review-type articles out there comparing the providers.

Yes, we receive the 1-VOIP device. Plugged it in and everything works as described. The web interface seems to work well. The call quality is fine. We will port our home number this week - hopefully it goes well. We did receive a call from their customer service after we received it to make sure everything was working properly. Our total monthly cost will be $13.97 including taxes and 911 fee.

We did look at using the Obi with Google Voice. Unfortunately, Google Voice is not available for numbers in our calling area (even if it is first ported to a cell company).

That’s too bad! I remember not too long ago (1 year?) I got notices that Google Voice was going to stop supporting Obi so my phone was expected to stop working, but apparently they made some kind of a deal and it still works.

A quick follow-up: the porting to 1-VOIP is complete - it took about a week. Everything is working well.

@dadof2d Thank you!! I very much appreciate the follow-up! I think you have cemented my decision to go with 1-VOIP - thanks so much for sharing your experience!
