How much volunteer experience in a hospital does a person needs in order to get into med school?
So far, I haven't done any volunteer work. I finished my freshman yr in college and didn't have time at all to do any volunteer work. I was hoping to do some over the summer, but al the volunteer opportunities at the hospital were full, so I didn't do any. I doubt that I will have any time to do volunteer work during the school year due to the massive studying I have to do in order to do well in my science courses. So it seems like the only way I can do volunteer work is next summer. Is that enough? Do med schools prefer students who do them during the school year? How much volunteer experience are they looking for?

Also, besides volunteering at a hospital, how many extracurricular activities are they looking for? I hardly did any activities my freshman year because I spent all my time studying. I hope I can do at least one activity the upcoming year, is that enough? I would like to do more, but taking 18 credit hours and commuting at the same time makes it hard to do so. Anyway, how much extracurricular and volunteer experience are they looking for?
