<p>Does anyone have experience with their college student volunteering in India during the summer? We are researching opportunities for working with children and are looking for reputable organizations that have well established programs. Thanks for any feedback!</p>
<p>I used this company (but I am based in the UK). I went on their programme to Goa and it was excellent. There was a Canadian girl there who booked direct with them from Vancouver, so am sure you can book direct from the US. I was there for 6 weeks: few days in Mumbai (largely un-guided, but I was with the other volunteers), 1 week trekking and visiting an Ashram near Pune, then train down to Goa for 4-5 weeks volunteering. We lived in a huge house with meals provided (as most people were girls it reminded me of my sorority house!) and only volunteered mornings or afternoons M=F, which left plenty of time for the beach and for travelling further afield at the weekend. Total imersion into India, had to deal with the good, the bad and the ugly. Incredible place, but not for the faint hearted, uber entitled or those used to creature comforts!</p>
