Volunteering at a Hospital

hey!!
This summer I want to volunteer at a hospital and I was wondering how long does the process to take to get in, is it difficult to get in, is it fun and interesting???
It will be great if anyone who had experiences volunteering a hospital share about it. :)

I’d start checking with your local hospitals now for volunteering information. I called in April last year and the application process was closed. Typically, hospitals select a number of students to meet a quota and that’s it. You want to be the early bird to get the worm.

I was late, but I did have a friend who volunteered at a highly ranked hospital in my city. She said the volunteers in her group received most of the brunt work that everyone else in the wing didn’t want. This included cleaning beds after patients checked out and scrubbing rooms.

Do you want to go into the medical profession? If not, you may want to reconsider your volunteer plans. While it’s great you want to volunteer, many applicants to colleges use hospital volunteer hours as a pad on their resume. Unless you show a passion for the medical field, simply volunteering at a hospital could be looked at as such resume padding.

Thank u :). I called today at the hospital and it went to voicemail that tomorrow will be open registrations. Yeah I don’t mind putting my hands into work and yes I am interested in the medical filed. Btw, what do u mean by colleges use hospital volunteer hours as a pad on their resumes?

A lot of college applicants volunteer at hospitals just so they can put community volunteer hours on their resumes, a form of “padding” to make their resume appear better. However, colleges look for this and know when an applicant is doing said padding.

As long as you have a passion for the field you’ll be fine, though. Good luck!
