Which college is better for civil engineering? I want any input from better dorms, nicer campus, better job opportunities etc..

Both schools are good.

I would say the campuses are the true factor.

DS attends UMD. DD attends VT.

They are night and day differences.

UMDCP is a sprawling campus compared to VT.

UMDCP is federalist in the architecture. VT is not.

UMD is a metro ride away to a metropolitan area, VT is in the hills.

UMDCP and VT both have great internship opportunities, but UMDCP again is near Washington DC and VT is not near any city.

I look at UMD as a city school.

I look at VT as a college in a rural area.

College is not just about college, it is is about the social life outside of college.

DS is a city kid. DD is a town kid.

You need to look deeper and decide if you are a kid that wants more than just the school or you want that town feeling.

If a big city feel is not your cup of tea, go VT. If a small town atmosphere will make you go insane, go UMDCP.
