W&M sophomore here to anwser questions (other students/alums feel free to chip in!)

@hxhsux thank you so much that is incredibly helpful and makes me feel a lot better! I am a part of a sorority at my current school that doesn’t exist at W&M and so I would not be able to be a part of Greek life…how prominent is it there? Would I feel left out?

the prominence of W&M’s greek life sort of depends on the school you’re coming from, doesn’t it? the percentage of students who participate in the greek system ranges from a quarter to a third. if you’re coming from, say, vanderbilt, that might seem low to you. if you’re coming from stanford, that might seem high. my brother transferred schools, too, and being able to slide into the chapter of his fraternity at his new school eased the transition, so i can appreciate this as a factor in your decision. but W&M not having a chapter of your sorority might also be a blessing in disguise, since we all know that memberships vary across chapters.

again, i’d heed the advice of current students above mine on this topic, but in my (non-greek) experience, i would say that greek life on campus is noticeable but not dominant. it tends to be somewhat cliche on these boards, but the student body really is quite diverse in its interests and one’s social life really is what she makes of the many options that are available.

Hi Lifestorm!

I know WM has a model un and a model congress program for high school students, how easy is it to get involved with those/staff them as a freshman? Also do you guys run any other similar programs for high schools, or other younger students? Thanks!

Hi agree42, great to hear from you. I haven’t checked this thread in quite some time due to midterms and the like haha, but luckily for you, I know a lot about W&M’s Model UN programs. I’m a really active member of the International Relations Club (which puts on MUN events and the like). It’s easy to get involved and I have gotten to know some of my closest friends through Model UN. We run three conferences, WMHSMUN for high schoolers, WMIDMUN for middle schoolers, and &Mun, our college conference (it’s our first year putting on &MUN so we’re all super excited). It’s common to see Freshmen chairing or even directing committees for William and Mary’s High School and Middle School conferences. We also go to a lot of college conferences worldwide; we even got second place at WorldMUN a couple of years back. If you’d like more information about our MUN programs, or even want to talk to a current student about it, feel free to PM me. I can pass along your information to some of my friends in leadership positions in MUN, and they’d be more than happy to talk to you.
