W&M vs. PSU

Mt D is interested in majoring in biology and eventually going to med school. The choice is between Penn State (schreyers) or William and Mary. We are in-state so PSU is much cheaper with the small Schreyer's scholarship. Also, she got full tuition at Loyola (MD) but doesn't seem to think that Loyola is as good. Is it worth spending the money now or better to go to PSU and save the money for med school? Does anyone know about the future med school chances at either of these schools?

Excellent premed at W&M, don't know about PSU.

Ocome on. Those are two comparable great public univs. Yes, it is much better to go to PSU and save $$$ for med school later.

Comparable?

6000 undergrads vs 25000 undergrads. Small class sizes, professors who teach, small time sports vs big state university, great sports, etc.

PSU is much easier to get into. It is stronger in a lot of areas than W&M, but not comparable at all. Either one is a great choice.

this is a no-brainer. My wife grew up in State College and never EVER thought about going to PSU.

well that is rare doctorb, I think something like 75% of State High goes on the Penn State.

If money is an issue id just go to the state school, since if u want to go to medical school you're gonna need a LOT of money to spend. Plus if u think about it the undergraduate is not as important as it's made out to be for med students. If u do well on the MCATs and do well at ur college(Which im sure ur daughter will do fine in both), that's about as good as it gets. So yes maybe W&M is "more prestigious", but i'd pick penn if i was in ur situation... Unless ur filthy rich:) This is my plan since im going to medicine also. Good luck!
