"W" Writing Courses

So last quarter, two of the classes I took (one 5 credit, one 2 credit) were labeled with a W on my grade report. When I check DARS, I apparently have 7 credits of writing fulfilled and need 3 more. I was not expecting this.

A few issues questions here:
1. I didn't know I was signing up for a 'W' course. They weren't labeled as Writing courses during registration - is this normal?

Do 3 credit writing courses with no prereqs exist? I checked the time schedule search for open W classes (For Spring though, it seems like it's not up for Fall) and found that there ARE 3 credit courses but are all 300-400 level classes (Nursing, Bioen, Spanish, etc). Obviously searching this way means that if they exist but are full, I won't see what that they're offered, but I don't know of any other way to look for W classes not under ENGL. I'll probably take a 5 credit writing course in the future to finish off the last few credits I need for this.

Thanks guys =)

If you go to the time schedule and go to the far right column and there’s a W, then its a writing class.
For example: [HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS](HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS)
HSTAA 221, 322, 365, and 432 are writing classes.

ahhhh awesome

i probably misse that when i registered… and it seems like nobody in my classes were expecting a W either (we had a long discussion on facebook about this with about 80% of the class there)

thanks!
