Wait listed at University of Richmond

still haven’t heard back about after being waitlisted and it has been 5 days since Decision day. I have already deposited at VCU and doing everything I am supposed to. I just wish Richmond would notify me asap whether I am in or not so I can focus properly on my future at VCU

@tcsenion2k16 While I understand your frustration (I’ve been in your spot before), you just won’t know when you’ll hear back. You just need to focus on VCU now and be happy there. If UR calls great, but if they don’t then you might as well prepare to be happy at VCU. I was so hung up on being waitlisted as an incoming freshman that I neglected the school I deposited at, and I regret that. You can always transfer to UR your sophomore year. Admission isn’t as competitive.

@tcsenion2k16
I’m the same here. Been waitlisted at Wake Forest, Trinity, Richmond, and Clemson and I haven’t heard a thing. So frustrating!

Hi! I recently just got an offer off the waitlist! Richmond was definitely a reach for me. I’ve taken a rigorous course load and have a 4.2 weighted gpa and worked outside of school but could have had a better SAT score and more ec’s. I accepted a spot after being waitlisted at my top 2 but had low expectations since they are need aware. However on my phone call they informed me they were need blind this and then formulated me a financial aid package within an hour and it was phenomenal! It truly was a dream come true for me and we seem to have similar stats. Nothing is a gurantee in college admissions but I’m hopeful it will work out in your best interest!

@Racspider Wow! That’s amazing, especially about the need blind wait list this year. Congratulations. I’ll see you on campus this year. :slight_smile:

Wow! I’ve been talking to some of my friends at my school too and Richmond has taken even more people off the waitlist. I really want to see the stats on that this year. It seems incredible.

Do you by chance remember roughly what the acceptance rate was this year? It’s normally around 31%. Was this year’s well below that?

Because I’m sure the overall acceptance rate will also include the students accepted off the waitlist

@rvalover7 ^

@RichmondSpider94 I don’t remember off the top of my head. I do believe it was lower than 31%. They said how many were accepted out of ___ number of applications. That does not obviously include waitlists since it was announced before they started using the waitlist.

@rvalover7 Ok, thanks. It’ll be interesting to see if the final acceptance rate is lower than 30% this year

@RichmondSpider94 I think it was below 30%, but I’m not sure. They said it was the most competitive year they have had in admissions.

Seriously? A 4.3 w/high SATs will only land you on the waitlist at Richmond? Criminy, it’s not William & Mary.

@It’s OK @Muad_dib
One thing many people aren’t aware of is that UR considers level of interest. If you’ve heard of Tuft’s syndrome, that’s at play during regular decision. If you apply RD at UR with really high stats and don’t show interest (especially if you don’t apply by Richmond Scholars deadline), there’s a chance you’ll end up on the waitlist (yield protection- they assume you’ll get into “better” schools and are using them as a safety). Moral of the story is show interest! Apply by the scholars deadline, visit the school if you can, etc

@guineagirl96 According the Common Data Set for U of R, level of interest is considered bout not important. Although, I’ll bet a lot of schools put more emphasis on it than they let on.

By the way, we live in Virginia and are thinking about in-state options for our daughter. We keep hearing good things about U of R. Since they are a private school, we would need financial aid. How generous are they?

^ I think that UR definitely believes that showing interest is important.

@Muad_dib UR is really generous with financial aid and meets full demonstrated need!
There’s also the Richmond Promise, which gives full-ride need based aid to students whose families make less than $60k a year and are Virginia residents.

We ran the NPC for Richmond. Our estimated price was about $36k.

@Muad_dib I will go ahead and say that my estimated price with the NPC for UR was full price. I filled out the financial aid application anyways and ended up getting over $25K in aid. Not sure if this is the case for a lot of people, but it definitely varied from what it said it would be.

I just read recently that Clemson was ranked at the top in the nation for finding placement for its waitlisted students…so best of luck.

Makes sense, I was admitted off of Clemson’s waitlist two weeks ago! Still waiting for three other schools though, like Richmond!
