I know this is so early, but for anyone who wants to talk about what to do next after getting waitlisted, here’s the place to do it!
Not waitlisted this year (was last year). I suggest waiting a week or two and then showing interest to your regional AC. Send any important additions to your application such as awards, achievements, publications, etc. If you can and live nearby schedule a tour.
Thanks for the suggestion we will send an update in a few weeks. I would consider another trip there if I thought it would make a difference.
Anyone knows what percentage of students wrre taken off the waitlist last year?
Sat - 1350
GPA - 94.48 (unweighted) at a very rigorous Catholic High School
Extracurriculars - 10+ clubs including 100 hours of hospital volunteer work
Can anyone evaluate my chances of getting admmitted off the waiting list? It would also be nice to hear some of the qualifications of other who were waitlisted. I know this sucks, but we will all end up somewhere.
@lemondrop2 I applied on the other thread but will also post here. Last year over 3000 people were offered a spot and around 1200 accepted a spot. Out of 1200 only 60 were admitted. The year before that they admitted 151 off the WL. It depends on the year. I was waitlisted last year so if you have any questions feel free to ask!
SAT 1430
GPA 3.97
Hospital internship
Great references
Varsity sports
Works two jobs
Need financial aid
Waitlisted. Seriously a need blind school? Poor kids need not apply.
I need financial aid too and got wait listed. I suspect that need blind applies to students over a certain threshold of GPA and test scores, i.e. if you didn’t need FA, you would have been accepted.
@Pancho98 Not sure about the need-blind thing, but there are plenty of kids each year who don’t qualify for FA who are waitlisted or rejected. There are a lot of qualified students and they can’t possible reward FA to every single person.
@Pancho98 I spoke with FA dept & admissions several times, admission is 100% need blind. The applications are sent to admissions, they don’t see FAFSA or CSS, totally need blind. However - WL is NOT need blind so if they are running short on their budget, it may affect it, that being said, I have heard of those on the WL getting need based aid.
I hope you are right. However, now that I am wait listed, financial need comes into play according to their FAQ brochure that came with my letter. I would gladly take a spot at Richmond if they offer it and the cost is comparable.
Guys - I just declined my admission. Hope someone who was wait-listed gets the spot I cleared. Good luck.
Wait listed and going to visit on Monday. They do have an all day event for admitted students but it is full according to the website, so we are just on a general tour. Should we call the admission office and see if we can get into the admitted students event?
D did not get into #1 choice and Richmond on paper is now the best choice. We have not visited however.
@Dross3667 I would go ahead and call admissions! It doesn’t hurt to ask.
@Dross3667 UR never cancelled my reservation for 4/8 Accepted Student Day as we cancelled when we had to move the date, we went last monday. I am calling now to cancel so a spot is about to open up! Just saw the confirmation email this morning & realized they must have never cancelled it.
Sorry, meant 4/10! Just called & cancelled.
Thanks cloudysmom,
I called and they politely told us not to come to admit day, but they looked forward to seeing us at the normal tour which we did today. We enjoyed it. Now we have to wait, but not holding our breath.
Thanks again
has anyone heard from the waitlist yet?
I JUST GOT THE CALL!!!
@Syrupandpancakes Would you be able to describe what your contact was like with the school after accepting your waitlist offer (sending updated grades, reaching out to counselor, etc)? Did you indicate it was your first choice? I did all of the above and I am a fellow waitlist applicant- hoping for a similar timeline!
