For future reference (not for this year, obviously), if you expect to be a National Merit Semifinalist, would it be better to wait until after you are notified in early September to apply so you can put that on the application? Or would it be better to go ahead and apply in August, and expect TAMU to see your name on the list of semifinalists when it is released?
I think it is best to apply early. When you make NMSF and NMF etc let them know.
@bctnln1059 like @perazziman said it is best to apply to TAMU early (as long as your application is otherwise ready), TAMU fills up faster each year, and if you wait, getting a dorm room can be difficult. If you want to hedge your bets, you can write something like “NMSF candidate (XXX PSAT)”
Agreed. The benefits of applying early is getting into your major of choice and getting into your dorm of choice. Of course if you make national merit, they may accommodate you on the major regardless. You can also get into the honors dorm if you do university honors. But if you have your heart set on Hullaballoo or some other non honors dorm or don’t want to do university honors I’d get it in early.
Ok, thanks, everyone!
And of course, name TAMU as your top choice in your National Merit information!
