wait... "we plan on accepting 7600 freshman this year"?!

Proudtrojan - they didn't provide the stats for all the applicants? And yea I know they use a holistic approach, but I just want to make myself feel better as my confidence is extremely low right now haha.

Yeah, they typically announce all official data after everyone has matriculated.

my SAT is 2120 superscored, 2100 one sitting. I took it twice and regret giving my money to the stupid CB. That's exactly why I didn't take any prep courses or buy any prep books. But then I cancelled that out by taking the SAT IIs-twice. Only because I realized french was going to be impossible so I left and cancelled my scores and paid the late fee to take it November 2nd. I'm a tool.

What really irks me is it's some ridiculous amount to have it rescored. Shouldn't they be SURE it's right? And if it was their mistake, they don't even refund it. I just feel annoyed by that whole scam. I would never rescore.

I'm still worried to the ulcer point. My only "weak" point is my GPA, which was 3.73/4.46 at end of junior year and 3.78/4.52 at end of 7th semester (yes, I sent in mid-year grades around jan 11). It's not even that huge of a weak point (plus I'm from freaking KANSAS in a crazy smart school district where people, even the geniuses apply to KU) so I was pretty confident of an acceptance before this crap.

Also, I have to address something that I was wondering if anyone else noticed. On the "official decisions 08" thread, I've noticed less of the 4.0/2400 people and more people with UW GPAs in the 3.7s and 3.8s. And those are big scholarship candidates! Could it be that since USCs accepted average GPA last year was 3.8 and the matriculated was 3.7 that they are actually accepting people with slightly LOWER stats to lower their yield rate? Maybe I'm waayyy overthinking that. I hope someone else follows my train of weird thought.

There's only one good thing about this nervous fit and it's that I tend NOT to eat when I feel this way. Maybe I'll make my "size 8 by graduation" goal after all.

I think they are accepting kids with a range of GPA's and test scores similar to yours. The problem with trying to figure out why a kid gets in to a particular school is that the only person with the complete package of information (application, transcripts, recommendations letters, tax returns, etc) is the admissions officer. Add to this their desire to balance a class of students so take gender, talent, declared major, and other factors to what we don't know. Even the applicant himself does not see the whole picture so to make conjectures based on anonymous website postings might not be so productive. You seem competitive for admission at the school and it probably helps that you are from the midwest. Good luck... I hope you hear soon. BTW, I think your "weak" GPA is absolutely awesome!

But I want to hear back noooow. XDDD

I swear, we'll all get heart attacks by the time USC is done with this whole acceptance thing x)

Stress makes you bald. ^_^

oooooohhhhhh wwwwooooowww

when i was an undergrad, it really did seem like every incoming class was more talented than the last.

i jsut graduated, class of '07. i am sooooo glad i am not one of you kids right now. i have a cousin, he was class of '01 Marshall. he had a 3.3 gpa, 1210 sat and was accepted as a spring admit out of high school.

seriously, good luck, you will need it.

although, it seems most of you are VERY talented either way. you guys should be good, with or with out an 'SC degree.

and thanks for making USC look good!

thanks bessie :)

What will the admit rate be this year then?

doesnt that mean t he admissions rate will go from 27% to around 20%!?

Somewhere around there, yes. It does seem as if this year's admittance rate will be significantly lower.

That really sucks. DX

The planned admit rate this year is indeed 20%, and the university is expecting a 34% yield (with the "summer melt").

This year maybe different. Seem like a lot of kids apply to a lot of schools, hence the surge in applications for most schools, not just USC. In fact, I read even MIT had to increase the acceptances because the yield probably goes down this year.

^ I agree. Given the change in fin aid policies by some of the selective universities, the elimination of in ED, EA applications for some colleges, and the increased student populations, I think will have an effect in admissions and matriculation expectations. I think there's going to be a lot more unpredictability this year.

I think this year is the peak of the surge in college apps and is flat next yr and tapers down thereafter.

The numbers are depressing. -_-

tell me about it. The wait is killing me.

On a different note, calling about your status is pretty useless. I could've guessed but I called yesterday in desperation because this preliminary review thing is making me a wreck. I gave my USC ID to the man and he paused for about a minute and said "no decision yet, but your file is complete."

Was he just saying no decision yet to be nice and I'm actually a reject? Or have they truly puzzled over my file, trying to decide whether I should be accepted? Or do they do it in alphabetical order and haven't even gotten to me yet?

i don't think they do it alphabetical order. but keeping in mind that theres 37000 applicants, i guess it does take quite a bit of time to review all of them.
