Waiting for results...

This month is going to go so slowly! Results are mailed the last week of march/first week of April..........

AHH!!! I'm ANXIOUS!

Anyone else feeling the same???

Got any remedies for curing my impatient-ness??

I'm literally counting down every day...

Oh yes, I am definitely feeling the same! Me and the waiting game do not get along… I just had my last audition this past weekend and have not been able to sleep very much since then! I need to be busier, I think, because I have too much downtime to think & get even more anxious!

It is a good time to do some in-depth research on the websites of the schools that are still in play. For example, you could look up the curriculum for your major at each school and make a list of all of the classes you will need to take at each of them for the next four or five years. If the school publishes class schedules on the website, you could even see when and where the classes are offered, and which electives get offered every semester, every other semester or every fourth semester. This can all be useful information when choosing among schools later. It can also be really helpful in letting you meet all the prerequisites in time to be able to take the electives you really want in Junior and Senior year.

Then there is all the work you need to make up from when you were off at auditions.

Last, but not least: practice, practice, practice.

I’m with you!!

I was supposed to get results from one of my festivals yesterday and didn’t. Hopefully I’ll hear soon… The wait is tough though!!

I have to think that the hair color companies make the bulk of their revenue during the month of March from the moms of music majors!

Haha! Mezzo’sMama, my mother made a very similar comment yesterday!

Anyway, I am SO anxious. Does anybody know when Hartt sends out their admissions? Or maybe the have rolling admissions?

Mezzo’smamma

What hair??? you mean you still have some left to color?

theperformer, from my son’s experience back (unless you took the early December audition in which case you’d have a decision by Christmas), you’ll hear from Hartt in the latter part of March. His acceptance letter came the last week of March. Hartt Performing Arts Talent award was included that letter. The rest of the financial aid award came in a separate letter, about a week later.

Grab a pint at the local watering hole.

Even though my son has been admitted, we are still waiting on Financial Aid packages from all the schools. Then we can decide who to visit again during spring break (informational lessons with potential prof’s).

Thanks for the info!

The Hartt audition was reasonably low stress and I definitely appreciated that! Uh. Waiting for admission decisions is not very fun, when all around me, my friends going to liberal arts colleges are all jumping for joy with their acceptance letters…Grr.

Now is the time to volunteer at the HS. It is almost over. They need help on end of year events. You could get really consumed by a volunteer funciton and time will pass, you will feel really good about it, and it is the last time to really touch an event and be involved for this child.

My advice, a few years out, is get used to it. It never ends. Currently in the round of waiting for summer results and ongoing professional auditions. Wondering if S will ever be employed… waiting, waiting…

My other advice is (for parents only – kids stop reading now – I said Stop! – I mean it…Do you treat your parents this way? Geesh.) to spend your energies on the back-up plans. (Kids, I told you not to read that!) Students can also be concentrating on back-up plans if they wish, but parents can do this quietly - in such a way that it doesn’t come off as “I don’t believe in you.” But when/if the negative results come in (and if they are all positive this time, more power to you, but that is unusual), it will be nice if you can react calmly and supportively, knowing that you have a school / gap year / alternative plan that you can afford and your kid likes.

More than once, I have heard from kids that the worst part of a rejection is feeling that they let their parents down. Now is the time to practice your support skills. If you never need them, at least you will have had something to do while waiting.

Following up on BassDad’s advice, thinking about what you liked and didn’t like about the schools that are possible “accepts” is a good thing to do now. My D is a freshman at a conservatory now, and looking back on the application/audition process I’m realizing that choosing between acceptances was harder than we anticipated (though the waiting for notice part was excrutiating!).

Spending some time getting a jump on what each program offers and how it fits with your goals will be helpful when you’re weighing other factors regarding which offer to accept like financial aid, travel, etc.

Hang in there, auditioners and parents! This too shall pass!

It’s funny to see the comments about moms. My wife is really climbing the walls over waiting for final results. My kid is pretty calm, of course, she’s trying to keep her grades in order and just finished a stint as student music director for her school’s production of Sweeney Todd. She’ll probably get more antsy as the month goes on.

As Tom Petty so aptly put it once: “The waiting is the hardest part.”

Absolutely, schleen. For those who are having a hard time deciding among acceptances, April flies by on fast forward with the deposit due May 1. Best to do those things that can be done while waiting for the postman or the email to arrive.

I third Schleen. We had a terrible time deciding what to do in April. Had to visit schools (again!) while my son was very involved in studying for IB exams at his international schools. I’m not sure how it might have been easier, but perhaps to have anticipated this earlier would have helped (e.g. we could have visited one or two in spring break because he’d already heard from them - without the scholarship information). Good luck everyone. It’ll be over soon.

I heard from Yellow Barn Fellowship Program that I didn’t get in - It’s totally fine and I expected to not get in because it’s super competitive and they take only one person on my instrument! No worries. I will try again next year. I hope I can get into something for this summer, but if I don’t I have a good job lined up and can make lots of money instead!

My D just received her acceptance at Interlochen Arts Academy for her senior year. She is absolutely thrilled! And so are we, though it’s sad that we won’t be hearing her practice, and there’s no way we can see her performances…but we’re so proud. Still waiting on summer programs, and of course, we get to do all this again next year for the college aps. This board has certainly been a great source of info. Good luck to all!

Our S just got an acceptance call from Eastman for classical percussion. Very exciting!!!

Congrats–very exciting!!!
