Last year, when daughter received admission letter, we immediately paid the deposit, and then had to wait to get another letter in the mail that gave us information about paying the housing deposit. We got the letter at around 1130 a.m. on a Saturday, and had paid the online deposit for housing within 10 minutes of receiving it. DO NOT WAIT!! We are in Tennessee, and obviously people who were in closer proximity to Auburn received their letter a day or to earlier. She applied for Honors Housing and probably would have gotten in the Village; however she also signed up for a Learning Community later which guaranteed housing in the Village. She opted for that and is living in Eagle Hall as we speak.

So, is that confirmation deposit non-refundable???

Auburn is probably my D’s first choice (she found out acceptance online this week - no letter yet), but we are OOS and it is not looking good that we are going to get much, if any, merit aid. (She applied prior to the last ACT hoping for a much better score and that didn’t happen!)

She has already received a nice scholarship from another school that makes the cost a third of Auburns so…

The confirmation deposit to accept is NONREFUNDABLE. You have to make that though in order to the pay the $300 housing deposit, $50 of which is the application fee, and $250 of which IS REFUNDABLE. Auburn was not automatically my daughter’s first choice, but we are also out of state in Tennessee, and due to Auburn’s lack of guaranteeing freshman oncampus housing, we felt that the $250 was basically the cost of doing business with them in order to get as close to the head of the line as possible. (We also paid a housing deposit at Ga. Tech in November, and lost a portion of it when our daughter finally decided to attend Auburn in March, so all these schools know they have you between a rock and a hard place in getting your first choices in housing!). Here are the links about admission and housing:

received acceptance letter and founders scholarship today!!!

Is the student ID included in the acceptance letter?

It appears as thought you can’t pay the confirmation deposit without it. After the deposit is received it appears as thought you wait for a letter with information to set up a username and password to pay the $200 housing deposit.

It seems odd to have to wait for back and forth snail-mail to jump through hoops for all of this.

Actually the tuition deposit is $200. The housing deposit is $50 nonrefundable; $250 refundable for a total of $300.

I went back and looked at my daughter’s file from last year, as I remember that we were kind of crazy about getting in her housing app with Auburn. So, for what it’s worth, this is how our timeline went. As I said, we are from Tennessee, so we knew that people closer to Auburn received their information in a day or two’s less time.

She found out online on October 5 of her acceptance. On October 10, she received a letter dated October 6, in which her Student ID was included. I got online the morning of October 10, and paid the $200 tuition deposit. Then we had to wait to receive a letter in order to make the housing app. We received a letter dated October 12 (remember I paid the deposit on October 10) on Saturday, October 17, (this letter again provided the Student ID number, but also now included her user ID which we had to use to set up her account access to make the housing application, received TigerMail, etc.) and we got online immediately and made the housing application and paid the deposit – basically getting the website on as we were opening the envelope! I remember this vividly because we waited to get our mail before leaving on an overnight visit to Va. Tech! As in “Oh gosh, if the letter from Auburn comes, we can’t wait until Sunday night when we get back to make our housing application!!” – WHICH, OF COURSE, goes on to reflect what blueiguana further wrote:

“It seems odd to have to wait for back and forth snail-mail to jump through hoops for all of this.” :)

In the long run, it was worth the hassle – but, at the time, quite frustrating. I think Auburn knows that they have students and parents between a rock and a hard place. The demand for the Village has made it even moreso.

Hope this helps give you all some idea of what to expect in turnaround times. That is, of course, if they are doing things the same this year as last . . .

Thanks. Much appreciated. My frustration with this is when you are more than several states away, your mail is bound to take longer. Make this process a twice snail-mail process and the factor is doubled. It seems so odd that Auburn does so much to bring in high achieving students, and then makes one of the features they offer them - nice housing - more difficult for OOS. It would seem so simple to do all of this electronically.

Oh well…I’ll wait for my snail-delivered hoops to jump through. :)

Received our letter today in Middle Georgia. Dated Monday, October 12. Student ID was in the last paragraph. Deposit has been paid so now we wait for the next letter.

War Eagle.

I got my scholarship letter today in central Florida, but I haven’t even gotten my acceptance yet! Hopefully it comes tomorrow so I can put in my deposit.

Atlanta Suburb:

Acceptance letter dated 12th
Presidential Scholarship (and certificate) dated 14th
Presidential Scholar Day - Nov 11th

Middle Tennessee, also received Presidential, both letters dated 14th, both received today.

My son received Presidential scholarship certificate on Friday 10/15, then admission acceptance letter and laptop cover on Saturday 10/16.

A laptop cover, nice. When my son told his dad about his acceptance he asked if he got a t’shirt. My son laughed and said he was waiting on the actual letter but would settle for the scholarship. His dad still thought a t’shirt would be nice. Funny, we’re oos…way oos so it’s not like we can pick him up one at the sporting goods store in celebration. I think he’ll live.

When my son told friends at school they asked “Where?! That’s so far away!!”. As he’s explained the great academics, honors college, and scholarships, several are now applying.

Congratulations to all!!

Son received his acceptance letter on Saturday. We haven’t seen anything around scholarships yet.

Just a note regarding scholarships and test scores - they will take new test scores before the final decision date (check with scholarship office to confirm this).

Housing Application came in on Oct 23, letter dated Oct 18

Housing app today with user name and student id.

I’m entering as a freshman in the Spring (under 30 credit hours) and I found out last week.

War Eagle!
