What is clearing waitlist chances at Wellesley? Any thoughts/recommendations from those who got in from waitlist in previous years ?

You can see statistics on the Common Data Set. Last year (Fall 2010) 1049 were offered a place on the waitlist; 495 accepted a place, but 0 were admitted. They had more than expected accept the offer of admission and they had to scramble to find housing. They put all freshman on campus but some returning students were placed at a nearby campus in their dorms and had a shuttle bus. They aim for a freshman class of 600 and they had a class of 633.

Fall 2009: 900 students were offered a place on the waitlist; 543 accepted, and 30 were admitted. My D was one of the 30 (as were her two roommates). Freshman class had 589 students.

Fall 2008: 816 students offered a place; 421 accepted; 11 admitted. Freshman class size: 596.

Fall 2007: 719 students offered a place; 381 accepted; 0 admitted. Freshman class size: 590.

Fall 2006: 737 students offered a place; 395 accepted; 10 admitted. Freshman class size: 586.

So, in retrospect, my D was very lucky. She did send in additional information to the admissions office (awards and honors from spring semester her senior year, spring semester grades, etc.) and expressed her continued desire to attend. She was unable to visit ahead of time; her first time on campus was moving in to her dorm.

when will we start hearing back from Wellesley?

3rd week of May according to their webiste

Any idea how many were offered spots this year and accepted this year?

Here’s an article on this year’s admissions:

[College Sees Two Percent Increase in Applications](<a href=“PeperHelp Discount Code – Best Solution for Your Research Paper”>PeperHelp Discount Code – Best Solution for Your Research Paper)

so by reading the article…seems like they are trying to shrink their class size?
probably there wont be much waitlist spots…? :/

Last year more students accepted offers of admission than expected, so the college never went to the waitlist.

I could imagine that this year Wellesley would have adjusted by offering fewer students admission, so they may need to use the waitlist. I’m sure it is still too soon to tell.

we will know if there’s any waitlist activity after May right?

I did a little research on earlier threads.

Last year waitlisted students received an e-mail from Wellesley on May 18th which stated that the college thought it unlikely they would go to the waitlist (which, as we know, they didn’t).

In 2007, someone posted that she called Wellesley and “they said they make their first offers the third week of May and then the last date to notify is June 30.”

i called my regional counsellor and she said “Hopefully, we’ll know by May 10 where things stand. We’ll definitely be in touch if there is movement.”

D:

Thanks for the info! What have you guys done so far to show interest?

I sent a letter of interest and some updated information about my activities!

cool thats what I did too!

Has anyone heard anything recently from Wellesley?

D got the call at 5:50PM yesterday! She has until Wed to accept.

Same here! She said I will receive an official letter including financial aid information on Mon!
Do you know whether Wellesley’s financial aid is need-blind for waitlist admittees?

I got accepted from the wait list today. Have to accept by Wednesday. I’m over the moon!

As I understand it if you applied for financial aid it should still be there.

I got in off the waitlist, but I think I’ve decided that Barnard is a better fit for me. I hope one of you guys get my place:)

Seems like they are taking a lot of people off the waitlist? :P
