Waitlist Acceptances

I’m CC illiterate and couldn’t find that post - scribbling, do you mind posting a link?

I still haven’t heard anything back.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1129279-2011-going-off-their-waitlist-27.html

It’s post 393.

My son sent Princeton a note this week with updates to his file from year end awards and accomplishments and reiterating his strong interest in Princeton. They immediately replied acknowledging receipt. They said they had “no news about the waitlist”. It came across as no news about the waitlist – period, vs no news about his chances on the waitlist.

I continue to believe they havent gone to it at all, the single post on the parents forum about a “friend” was inaccurate, and that the information posted here on this thread about it won’t be until June and only about a dozen or so is going to be the likely scenario. They offered too many slots on the front end to require much depth into the wait list when this all shakes out.

I called and spoke to Cindy from the Admissions Office. She indicated they took a couple/few (the actual number was NOT provided) people from the WL last week and that the list would remain active/open thru June 30th. But, they didn’t know whether anyone else would be taken from the list. Patience, I guess…

Sounds like they have an almost filled class, if not filled class. Just waiting for the summer melt.

When does the summer melt normally occur? Late June/July?

And, what does “summer melt” mean?

^“summer melt” refers to those students who were accepted, paid a deposit by May 1, but then decide to go elsewhere.

That’s very nice nomenclature. :stuck_out_tongue: “Summer melt”… it’s just like ice-cream! :)

The Princeton residential college facebook has been updated with the profiles of 1331 students in the class of 2015. I don’t know whether or not that means any more will be added from the waitlist.

Hmm… interesting!!! I read they were hoping for what, 1250 to 1300 students?
Ouch… looks like they’ve overfilled.

Fightthetide— what exactly is the pton res college facebook? you need the netid for that?

^^I’ve heard from a friend at Princeton that their yield this year was record high. This most likely means the wait-list will end soon, or that as “summer melt” occurs some - like a dozen - will get calls.

Oh, well, I’m not paying for college so that’s the way it goes…

I think we have about 1290 in 2014, and if about 25 '15ers go on a bridge year, that puts 2015 at just over 1300, which is pretty reasonable.

The residential college facebook can be found at princeton.edu/collegefacebook (you need your netid and password to log in). Around mid-July it will be updated again with pictures and housing assignments.

Are we ever going to hear from Princeton? I would just like a no for closure. Its June 1st already!!!

nychelsea-- Don’t blink!

hahaha but seriously!!!

Come on Princeton… Can’t you at least tell us something? The lack of communication is frustrating!

karenoona: Very bad decision… and I would know, having chosen Princeton over Harvard last year  (Obviously I’m just kidding, best of luck!)

To all the rest: It does seem like the class of 2015 is mostly full… but don’t worry! I just finished my first year at Princeton, which was my dream school. I love Princeton, but I’m not going to pretend I was unconditionally happy there all the time. I’ve come to the realization that happiness at college is as much correlated with temperament as it is with the college you attend, if not more - I know people who are doing fabulously well and are very happy at their “lowest” safeties and other who had a terrible first year at their first choice schools. Princeton is great, but it’s far from the be all and end all of success. Also, if you are disappointed with the school you have committed to, remember that if you do well transferring (not to Princeton, but other Ivies) is an option. I have a friend who was disappointed to be rejected from all the Ivies she applied to in senior year of high school and ended up at Wellesley, but will now be transferring to Columbia after her first year (she was also accepted to Penn). So don’t lose hope! =) Best wishes to all!

I was already rejected from Yale’s waitlist (never even replied to Brown or Dartmouth or Northwestern about theirs [bastards!], and turned down Cornell because their financial aid was ****) and I fully expect (based on what you guys are saying) to not be accepted from Princeton’s, so I’m now fully convinced it’s Columbia '15 for me. Princeton was an amazing dream that got me through an awful senior year, and it didn’t pan out, but I’m just as excited to live in New York City with equally amazing people at an (pretty much) equally amazing institution. So good luck to all of you, at Princeton or wherever else. :)

Good luck to everyone, I’m sure all of your college experiences will be amazing!
It’s really sad that they don’t seem to have room in their class but just the fact that we made it to the waitlist is something to be happy about.

RockySterling, I also turned down Cornell, didn’t apply to Columbia but it’s Barnard '15 for me =). Good luck at Columbia!
