Waitlist Acceptances

They will be taking 10 kids who will hear from the office by phone in the next 2 weeks.

^ Where did you get that information? Why would they wait two weeks if they knew they needed ten? Hmmm…

^ I’m pretty interested in knowing your source AnimalToast

I had a meeting with my superintendant and we called the office. We spoke with somebody named Katie and had the information confirmed since then by Jamie Goodbinder, who I believe works with the dean. Good luck (though this is more bad news than anything… 10 out of hundreds)

I find it as good news b/c this is the last thing holding me back from fully becoming a UC Berkeley Cal Bear.

I just got off the waitlist.
Oh, man…
But. I’m in love with Columbia? What 2 do?

Given your tone and message there, that you seem uncertain about which school you now prefer is surprising.

Columbia isn’t even in a great part of Manhattan anyway. It’s all the way uptown and next to Harlem, one of the roughest areas in the city.

^ Oh, come on. Columbia is in a great location. It’s a 5 minute subway ride from “a better part of town”, and regardless Columbia has a great campus.

Congratulations, Nil! Good luck on your decision. You’ll do well with whichever.

@Nil — Congratulations! And good luck on making your decision. I know it’s tough & I imagine you’ve been concentrating on Columbia & what your plans were & now suddenly youv’e got to switch gears. Take your time & think it through & know whatever you decide will be the right decision!

OK, that being said, can you tell us other than great scores & EC’s, what was it about you that may have prompted the call. I imagine they’re looking to fill spots w/ similar applicants to those that leave. So, what made you the candidate they were looking for? Are you male or female? Are you an Athlete? Musician? Have you authored a book? Are you a winner of awards/prizes in Latin? Are you Latino, Af American, Native American? What is it that you think set you apart from the average great scholar that’s on the WL? Have you applied for FA? Thanks for any insight you can give us. And again, congratulations!

LOL, why would you single out Latin? (“Are you a winner of awards/prizes in Latin?”)
I mean, do those even exist? ;)

I believe Nil is African American.

@ JAupias: actually, they do – a friend of mine’s kid fits this description. I’m just wondering who get’s these spots — are they kids with some talent that really sets them apart (that was a way of explaining what I meant w/ an example of something that I think we’d all look at as rare & therefore would set one apart from others) vs just a crap shoot between equally talented kids with similar type EC’s?

Nil, please tell us how you learned that you had been accepted off of the wait list. I am sure many people are interested in knowing how you found out and how long they gave you to make your decision. Did they give you your financial aid package, too?

They called me. In fact, I missed the call because I was not at home all weekend. I wish they had emailed me because I would have seen the email.

Update: I think I will reject Princeton’s offer. As silverturtle sarcastically pointed out, i’m in love with Columbia and I can’t find any reasons to like Princeton except maybe it’s small size and senior thesis.

Hopefully, one of you guys will get the chance to go to the school you dream of.

Nil,

Do you mind sharing your income level? I’m just curious. Congratulations on Columbia! You got some amazing results from your college apps!

“They called me. In fact, I missed the call because I was not at home all weekend. I wish they had emailed me because I would have seen the email.”

Really, they called in the weekend?

What time did they call you and are you from the west or east coast?

no, they didn’t call on the weekend-- I just never checked my answering machine all weekend, so I had no idea they had called. I wish you all good luck, guys.

Be happy.
