My D was recognized by our local district as one of 4 for Artistic Achievement and given an award and scholarship. She was also interviewed by a local newspaper and they did a very nice piece on her. She is Waitlisted to Blair School of music and the award is for musical achievement. I have read that you should send a letter to certain people and update them on current awards which were not included in the application. 1) How would you phrase it to not seem odd? and 2)Should it be included when connecting to the admissions and coach because we want them to know our continued interest?
I don’t know, but congrats to your D and I hope she gets off the waitlist!
@dbandmom thanks… we do too… we did send a link to the article at the end of the email
Definitely update! “Here are some of my recent accomplishments.” It won’t aound weird at all!!
" I am writing to reiterate my interest in X. It continues to be my top choice and if extended an offer I’d happily accept it. I also want to take this opportunity to let you know about my achievements since I initially applied…"
@mperrine Waitlists will start moving, now that Peabody and Curtis decisions have come out. Keep the faith!! I am really rooting for your girl, she has worked so hard. PS: One of the (or the only, i’m not sure) horn players who got the Curtis spot this year is a grad student! So that just shows how hard the field is, when 18 year olds are competing against 22 year olds, it makes it VERY tough.
@Music2023 Oh yes we know the struggle first hand about that one. She applied to Colburn which they are directly against grad students and did not receive a prescreen, however at Rice she was able to make it past the first round and secure a spot in precreen auditions. When we arrived, she at 17 was one of 2 auditioning that day and the other student was a Master’s candidate… it was stiff when your direct competition has had 4 years of college level instruction. She was admitted to Eastman and for now it is continuing to grow on us. As they say… go to the college that wants you We still are on the waitlist at Vandy, but we were told at auditions that they were only taking 1 or 2 horns this year because last year they took 6… so it may happen that we accept Eastman before Vandy comes through.
I am sure she will thrive at Eastman!
