I know that there are already approximately 1 billion waitlist threads on CC, but I just need some guidance. I applied to two prep schools: one boarding and one day. I was waitlisted at both of them, and I just found out that there is no spot for me at the day school. I'm really confused. I don't want to sound self-promoting, but I think my stats are really good and my interviews seemed to go really well. The only thing is that I need FA, but I only need half the tuition! My chances of getting into the boarding school off of the waitlist are pretty low, and I'm feeling especially pessimistic now that I got rejected to the day school. I've already contacted the boarding school expressing how committed I am, and my parents have been in contact with the admissions office as well. Is there anything else I can do?

Thank you so much!

Are you Asian American? If you are, it is more harder for you to get in and get FA even though you think you have the stats, as Asians are considered over represented minority (ORM). You can also apply now to boarding schools with rolling admissions, find the schools at [Boarding School Review.](www.boardingschoolreview.com) You can always apply again next year if you are in lower grades 9th or 10th. There are a good number of applicants that are successful on re-application. Good luck.

I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes that you need only half the tuition - it’s still a significant amount of money. And, honestly, once you need financial aid, it doesn’t matter how good your stat’s are . . . it’s just a heck of a lot harder to get in. Lots of REALLY strong candidates are turned down every year because of financial aid need.

It’s not impossible to get in . . . but just being “as good as” all the other candidates isn’t good enough - you need to be better. The best strategy is to apply to a broad spectrum of schools, some harder to get into and some easier . . . and the more schools you apply to, the better your chances!

I’m not sure I can tell you anything that will help you this year. You should just know that getting waitlisted in these circumstances is no reflection on you. FA need just makes it lots harder to get in.

Realistically, it really doesn’t matter because in the end, the schools liked you but there are a number of factors not just financial aid that may have put you on the waiting list instead of the “yes” pile. And a lot of qualified students with good stats were turned down or placed on the waiting list.

Thank you very much for your honest responses.
