What exactly does it mean to have your name removed from a college's or university's waitlist? Does that mean you are admitted from the waitlist or denied? I was just reading a book of college essays, and "waitlist, name removed" was how some of the essays were noted.

It probably means the person was offered a spot on the WL but later asked to have it removed (i.e. they no longer desired to be considered a WL candidate)

You don’t give a lot of info, but I’m guessing that they mean the applicant was waitlisted instead of accepted and they’re not telling you at which college.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but, if one is waitlisted at a school but does not want to accept a spot on the waitlist, does she specifically have to send a note to the college to be removed from the waitlist, or is it just assumed that she’s forfeiting the spot because she did not send back a reply?

Send a note. That way you know, and they know, and everyone is happy.

^Thanks .
