Has anyone heard about waitlist movement?

bump please answer

I think it is pretty late in the game for that… people have already payed, or whatever, since the July 1 deadline passed. Sorry. Some schools are starting in one or two weeks.

So noone has moved off a wait list at a Hades school all summer?

bump 10 character

Got rejected off the Wait List at Deerfield quite some time ago. You guys haven’t heard anything yet? That’s strange…All you Deerfield hopefulls can give up. Sorry if that sounded harsh. But Patricia Gimbell personally invited me to call her office on April 10th or around there; she told me that no one would accepted off the Wait List. Apparently they had a great year.

If I were you, I would call the schools where my child was waitlisted just in case something opened up at the last minute. It’s a long shot to be sure, but by now most people on the waitlist would be resigned to their other plans, so a student willing to change plans at the 11th hour just could get lucky. And if not, at least you will know for sure.

Thanks for the insight. I was just wondering since there hasnt been anything since early June. It seems strange that nothing has been happening

Lamo…check you older post from this year, using the search function. It was a very tight year especially at DA. Last years freshman class was over-enrolled, high than expected yield. They are also at a recent high for totally enrollment, thus they are trying to get back to 600-620 students, verses about 660. They are just accepting fewer students at each level and even fewer 2nd year girls.

Rumor has it only 4 new 2nd yr girls—I will see if the rumor is true when my d gets on campus.

(the above information was given to me during interviews last november.)

My interviewer Segrid Howell told me the same thing. They had way too many girls in the incoming sophomore class. They were mostly looking for guys. That’s interesting… only four girls enrolled in the class of 2013. Very interesting. I applied as a repeat sophomore. I wonder if I would have had better luck applying as a Junior for the class of 2012.

Actually, there are approximately 20 new sophomore girls entering Deerfield this fall, along with about 25 new sophomore boys.

Interesting–did any of those kids at deerfield actually come off the waitlist or were they all accepted on March 10

March 10 acceptence here, I know a girl who was accepted on march 10 too, also as a sophomore.

From what I heard the WL was closed almost instantly and no sophomores other than those accepted on March 10.

Here’s an article hope it helps a bit, as you can see there are plenty of legacy and sibling applicants on WL: [A Perfect Storm in Admissions|The Scroll](http://scroll.deerfield.edu/?p=3352)

But in 99,99999999…% of all cases there won’t be a spot open now, if there would have been an opening in August it would be offered in the beginning of August since August 1 is the day tuition is due.

bump bump bump

biggreen-thank you for setting the record straight. My d will b happy she wont be one of a very small few. :-)

I agree it’s been brutal, especially for 10th graders. Andover sent letters saying they hoped something would open in August but we knew it wasn’t likely. Taft only took 50 10th graders. Exeter turned down and wait listed a lot of qualified legacy kids. Even Governor’s Academy had a huge applicant pool.

But the squeaky wheel sometimes gets attention. Never hurts to ask.

Anybody hear anything new this week?

Everybody is moving ahead with welcoming parties etc. They all talk about what a banner year it was…so many applicants, too few spots. Better Luck next year.

deerfield had 18 spots open for new 10th graders and around 9 of the 18 were legacies, leaving only 9 spots open for regular applicants. this information was given to me by one of the admission officers in april.

Squash13, unfortunately you were misinformed. There will be approximately 45 new sophomores enrolling at Deerfield this year. While there are certainly a few legacies in that group, it is nowhere near the 50% ratio that you suggest.
