jabberwocky66--did your friend do anything in particular that helped her get off the wait list?

I honestly don't think so--though it would be good to keep in mind that I go to a competitive all girls school, which may have had influence on their decision. However, I don't think she did anything special, becuase she's been happy about UC Davis for a while, and didn't show any signs that she was strongly pursuing the waitlist apart from simply staying on it.

Are they more inclined to accept you if you attend an all girls high school?

I don't know. But it would make sense, just in the fact that if you already went to an all girls school you would already know what kind of environment they have. So if you know that, and are still applying then you must be very serious, While other girls may apply and be seriously considering it, only to find out it isn't for them.

yeah...this is what I hear.

Does not having heard anything by now mean most of the waitlist movement is done already? Should I give up? And would calling to ask about the general WL status being annoying or proactive?

I suppose it depends...how many times have you called so far?

None about WL movement.

I'd call--better to risk be annoying than to risk seeming disinterested.

Hey Turnip, I know you said this "Wellesley's actually the one has what I want: small, discussion-based classes" and I'm sure you've heard this before, but Cal actually has a lot of small classes.

74% of classes at Cal have 30 or fewer students
only 7% of classes at Cal have more than 100 students.

I guess that it why it is one of the top 5 best publics in the nation.

Hopefully this will cheer you up a little, just in case Wellesley never makes it to the WL.

Thanks Hansel

Just talked w/a Wellesley admissions counselor who said that as of now there had been no waitlist movement.

Damn...I'm really sorry, people, I really wish you could have gotten off the waitlist, you all seem really amazing : ( Admissions are wack. If nothing else, though, the waiting's over and you can finally get really excited about all the cool places you're going to go next year. Good luck!!!!

whoah ... did I misunderstand weekes915? "No waitlist movement"? Does that mean Wellesley is not going to the waitlist at all? Or that they haven't yet? Or ...?

no...I think it means that they are no longer taking people off the waiting list--if they've taken people off, then they're done.

Just to add speculation to a conversation in which we were not a party, it would seem that Wellesley would have known by now if they needed to tap the wait list if insufficient numbers of students accepted offers of admission. Those responses were due almost a month ago. Any wait list movement now would (some more speculation) be based on students who accepted the offer from Wellesley getting in other schools off their wait lists. Based on what I have read elsewhere on CC, it seems like the IVY's and highly selective LAC's have admitted small numbers, if any, off the wait list.

She said that there had been none, and that they wouldn't know if they needed to pull people untill the end of June. I called because my first payment is due to Colgate at the begining of June.....

I doubt that they are going to use the waitlist. I heard a rumor BEFORE Spring Open Campus (Wellesley's official attempt at getting people to pick the school) that more people than expected had accepted their spots. I don't know how much truth there is to that rumor as I don't remember who said it. I also haven't seen any statistics on the class of 2010, nor have I been informed that Wellesley is appropriating my single next year for a first year double to squish you all in. So there's still hope.
However, if you're waitlisted, the only thing pestering admissions with these types of questions costs you is the phone bill.

Jabberwocky66--I thought you said your friend was accepted off the waitlist.

yeah, I know...I don't know her very very well, but I don't really see her lying O_o. I honestly don't know what's up, though she said pretty definitively that she'd gotten off. I can't really ask her, though; I just took my last classes, and since we're not really friends I don't think I'll see her again. I'm sorry for all this confusion : (
