Waitlist Responses

I called yesterday and the admissions office told me that they've only been bumping people off the waitlist. Has anyone on the waitlist actually heard back from Binghamton yet?

Nope, not yet. When I called the admissions office last week they said that they were going to try and get things done sometime by next Friday.

This of course begs the question, if they’re actually going through the waitlist, does this mean there will be acceptances? And has anybody noticed at the top of the status checker page that it says “Binghamton University has filled the Class of 2013!”? I mean, this doesn’t apply to me because I’m waitlisted as a transfer, but I’m surprised nobody has commented on this.

I suspect what they mean by bumping people off the WL is that somekids don’t send back card asking to stay on it.

I think the website “has filled class” doesnt say much, becuase you dont know if they have filled through admits or WL numbers. I think it just means no new applications.

In any event, all you can do is wait, and have alternative plans. Good luck.

I asked about “Binghamton 2013 class filled” and they told me that they were still going to take kids off the waitlist.

Good luck to everyone.

I got a letter today saying,

“Binghamton has had an extraodrinary response to our offers of admission. We are sorry to inform you that we will not be admitting any students currently on the waiting list. Therefore, we cannot offer you admission for the Fall 2009 semester. Our final decision reflects this year’s rigorous criteria among the record number of outstanding applicants.”

I received a letter today that, in a nutshell, said that I am no longer guaranteed fall 2010 admissions and will not be admitted off the wait list (wasn’t expecting to be, I declined the offer?). The letter was very smug sounding;almost as though my failure to accept a position on the wait list is tremendous mistake.

I was recently accepted to Geneseo. I have news for you Binghamton: accepting a place on your wait list or transferring there in fall 2010 would have been the mistake.

This letter seriously changed my opinion of Binghamton. Just because I chose not to accept a spot on their wait list, doesn’t mean they can rub in how much of a “mistake” it was to me by an unnecessary mailing. Not to mention it was completely useless and a waste of postage.

My son got the same letter. I can’t believe they didn’t even offer a spring transfer as they’ve done in the past. Oh well, other than the $$$, I am sure he’ll be just as happy (or more so) at Delaware.

haven’t received a letter yet but I will be calling Monday regarding my waitlist decision and also asking about spring admission.

BTW, my son’s favorite part of the letter is this: “If you still have an interest in attending, we would welcome your application as a transfer student. Here, 1 in 3 students is a transfer – students who previously attended and excelled at a community college or another four-year school”. Yeah, I think he’ll just attend the local community college and hope that Binghamton decides that they’ll honor him with an acceptance in a couple of years.

sean256, had you actually been offered/guaranteed a Fall 2010 transfer and they rescinded it?

That really sucks guys, I’m sorry to hear that.

I suppose it would have been smarter to guarantee people admission for fall 2010 or create an official wait list AFTER they saw how many people put in deposits- but I suppose this year has an unpresedented amount of people deciding to stick with state schools.

bdmet - Do you know if that is only for freshman on the waiting list, or for a specific school? I applied as a transfer to Watson and I haven’t heard anything yet. With status checker down, I’m going a little nuts here because I have no idea what’s going on next year.

wow…so no one is being taken off the waitlist, crazy. Im sorry to hear about everyone who will not be admitted this year. You will be successful at other colleges…it is not the end of the world :)

Yes I was offered guaranteed fall 2010 admission. BU really disappointed me with that letter. I respectfully declined their wait list offer by returning the appropriate card and they still feel the need to send a ridiculous letter after the fact?

just out of curiosity did anyone on the waitlist like write to Binghamton saying how much they wanted to go or visit the school by any chance?

HyperJulie, as far as I know I believe its for freshmen.

And kex971, I have been working on something to send in to them to help them see what kind of a candidate I am, but they mailed these letters pretty fast I didnt even get to send my thing out yet!

Even though I already got their letter I am going to send my thing on Monday regardless

They mailed letters out quickly because a lot of people put down deposits at the school for next year. Sending something may work but it also may not even be looked at as the Admissions Counselors are still going over transfer applications.

There is the option of appealing the admissions decision but it only works a small percentage of the time from what I understand. If you want more information you can contact the admissions office.

My boyfriend still has not heard :frowning: Another friend received the same letter sean got, however, I was wondering—if you DID accept waitlist, will you be kept on guaranteed transfer? Is there a certain logic to which guaranteed transfers are being revoked?
