Waitlist shock

Kiwi_strawbree, did you mention that you were applying to Yale and Dartmouth? If you did, I don't think that they necessarily thought you wouldn't get into those schools. Maybe through your application, you showed a high interest in Carleton which led to your to your acceptance. Congratulations btw.

Thanks. Yeah, I did mention them, but Carleton was definitely higher on my list than either of them. Maybe they could tell?

CRAP, I just got waitlisted too!!. Got waitlisted and Wustly also arrggg. Carleton's not my top pic so its cool. Washington was one of em.

I take that back. Careleton was one of my topics.

Who said anything abotu Carleton being inferior?? He simply is saying that he believes Carleton is less selective. Don't equate selectivity with inferiority!!!! He never made that connection! You did:)

Just so you know, Carleton is not a safety for anyone. Much like Davidson, they can be really unpredictable in their acceptances. And a college application isn't all about grades and scores. You may not have been a good fit for the college. Carleton has it's own personality and it's possible that you just weren't the kind of person that would fit in.

waitlisted too. i'm gonna be haunted for the rest of my life. NOT. especially when i have a williams acceptance waiting for me to reply to:)

i got waitlisted...it feels like a rejection
"In 2004 there were 8 accepted from the wait list of 273. In 2003 there were 8 accepted from the wait list of 272." these numbers are very discouraging!!!
carleton was in my top 3 but i had no definite #1 so i'm bummed because either i can forget about it or essentially make it my first choice by putting additional time and effort into convincing them i really want it...and i do and i know i could be happy there but im worried that ill put so much into it emotionally but probably still wouldnt make it off the wait list...this sucks

I was waitlisted, and I am severely disappointed. My stats/essays/etc were very good, I felt, and I really, really loved Carleton (it was my second choice). Since I live in New Orleans, getting to campus for a visit wasn't exactly an easy thing, and I couldn't visit anywhere this fall because house, school, etc were all wiped out by Katrina, so my family wasn't in the financial situation to spend money on plane tickets to a school where I wasn't even accepted yet. Maybe I should have explained this to them? I did list the other schools to which I applied, BUT I listed Carleton as my National Merit school. I figured that would clue them in, but...guess not. :(

carleton was my national merit first choice too, you would THINK that would give us an edge up!

hey hey peeps, im still gloating so im gonna spit this out: I was accepted to Carleton on Sat and I think it helped that I mentioned that it one of my top choices in my interview, and that i visited the school. But I was waitlisted at Vassar today. Go figure. Ah, well, I guess I don't want to be around a bunch of pot smoking feminists anyways...

Wait, you had an interview? Did you do an on campus one?

Add me on that huge waitlist list. Still deciding whether or not to remain there though...

Is anybody but myself a little frustrated that Carleton put "Wait List" as two separate words and capitalized it? And how they said if we had applied a few years ago, our odds would've been higher of being accepted?

Anyway, my stats weren't that great. Two C's (GPA 3.3 UW end of last year), 2030 SAT and my essay was partially last minute. :o While I feel a little happy that they didn't outright reject me because of my past, the timing kind of sucks because I also got a waitlist letter from Mount Holyoke on Friday. Grrr.

For someone who asked, my letter was posted March 22nd and reached me March 27th. As an intel overseas, that's impressive.

yup on campus

I was waitlisted as well, and I left the "what other schools did you apply to" question blank on all my applications, so I doubt that's a factor.
I think for me at least, when I first started applying to colleges and everything, hearing acceptance rates like 40%, or even 20% didn't faze me at alll, beacuse I'm used to being in the top 2 or 3% of things academically (high school). But you have to realize that pretty much everyone applying to Carleton (and simliar schools) is in that top 2-3% from their high school--it's a paradigm shift.

i got waitlisted too.. my stats are rather good.. carleton was the 2nd on my list.. so i am terribly disappointed.. im an international student and got the letter today..

Has anyone considered the fact that Carleton is, at least partially, need-sensitive in their admission decisions? (They accept only 85% of their class need-blind; the remaining 15% is admitted on a need-sensitive basis.)

I got waitlisted today..... so disappointed.....
Carleton was one of my tops choices........ (sigh)

I got waitlisted too...

looks like they've put a lot of people on the waitlist... Are you guys staying on the waitlist? Also, is it better to snail-mail or email them our request to stay on the list?

nods Waitlisted too. Got letter today.
